Default Jazz center Okur out for rest of playoffs

Quote:
DENVER -- Utah Jazz general manager Kevin O'Connor says center Mehmet Okur has a torn left Achilles tendon and is out for the remainder of the playoffs.

Okur needs surgery and will likely miss the world championships this summer in his native Turkey. He flew home to Salt Lake City on Sunday after an MRI revealed the tear.

Okur was injured while driving to the basket in the first half of Utah's Game 1 loss at Denver on Saturday night. Before the game, he had taken a painkilling shot to treat his Achilles tendinitis, which he had been dealing with since April 7.

O'Connor said he doesn't believe the injection had anything to do with Okur tearing the tendon. Okur's right leg slipped as he was driving, shifting all his weight to his left leg, which twisted awkwardly as he fell to the floor.
ouch...

Thats really unfortunate for the Jazz, memo was playing great for them this year. I winced a little just reading that article, yikes.

The funny thing is, I saw an interview with him right before the playoffs started that said he was so excited for the World Championships in his hometown Turkey, and he was hoping he would not get injured in the nba playoffs.

If it was at all possible I would love to see Bargs on loan to the Jazz. I'd love to see Bargs play on a system where he just becomes another solid player on the court.

the Jazz might have ruined the guys the career, he shouldn't have been playing

he took a shot before the game so he couldn't feel the pain while he was playing

first real move he makes he gets injured, couldn't feel it on his foot but felt it slightly above, the reason why he took a shot before and couldn't feel the pain and what really happened to hi achilles, next thing you know its ruptured

way to go Utah

I hope its a Denver sweep, I hate when organzitions do this to player i.e Grant Hill with the Pistons remember guys on the Pistons were questioning his heart and wondering if he was tough enough, look at B-Roy with the Blazers, they didn't force the issue the got him surgery

I'm not sure they'd call him for the national team. He hasn't played there for quite a while because he refused to play the way the stubborn coach Tanyevic likes. Funny, he is the euro version of Sloan. I guess the difference is that he gets paid millions in Utah.

I think that "Bosha" had earned enough money in his 30 years career to don't mind how much Sloan get paid
