Nets Jason Kidd to sign 3yr contract with Nets

Wow! I was very skeptical this would happen...

Jason Kidd will become the next head coach of the Brooklyn Nets, according to a source that spoke with the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Kidd and the Nets are working on the final details of a three-year contract.

Kidd interviewed with Billy King on Monday.

For a team with championship aspirations - albeit delusional - this seems out of place. But Kidd's probably more in tune with the current state of the NBA than some of the retread names I've heard linked to the Nets. Oh, and that escalated quickly, or something.

so when the team is in dire need of a veteran presence, he just takes off the suit and away he goes

I would guess that he knows more than some of the coaches in the league. I think he will be great coach, maybe not right away, but eventually he will be. His ball IQ and experience is incredible.

Just seems a really bad idea not putting him as assistant or D-league even for one single year to get some seasoning. Some team after the Nets will get a great coach.

It's official!

IMO this is quite the risk. They had the opportunity to go after Karl, Hollins, Shaw and others and they roll the dice on Kidd.

Quote:
Late Wednesday, the Nets announced that the team has hired Jason Kidd to become its new head coach.

Kidd played seven seasons as a Net and just retired from playing with the cross-town rival Knicks.

The all-time great point guard will be the Nets' third head coach in less than a year. His close relationship wit Deron Williams is believed to be a major factor in the decision.

It says them being close is a factor though. You never know, he may actually listen to him because of that and get back on track.

This will either go very good or very bad.

this is a no brainer, Jason kidd a head coach, this guy knows how to adapt to any situation he is presented, from being allstar pg, to being a pg, and then into a role player

this guy commands respect and he helps guys that are head cases play well,

kidd is was pretty much a player/assistant head coach with the mavericks and knicks, for people who think he needs more seasoning i think there dead wrong, he's ready

Kidd over Karl, Shaw or Hollins? Surprising but good on Kidd - strong character, carries tremendous respect around the league with coaches, players and the league office, probably has seen or been part of every defensive/offensive scheme employed over the last 20 years in the league. Should have a great effect on Williams - he needs some coaching again that pg does.

Apparently he will bring Lawrence Frank as associate head coach and will be given freedom to sign strong assistants. I think it will be fine.
