J.R Smith close to signing with the Knicks

Quote:

The Knicks are close to agreement on a deal with J.R. Smith.

New York will need to cut a player to make room for Smith.

Smith has also been considering the Clippers.

Knicks closing in on a deal for JR Smith, Daily News has learned. Need to cut a player. Two weeks earlier and it could have been Jeremy Lin
I could almost guarantee it would have been. They should thank Lin's imaginary friend that Davis wasn't ready to come back on time.

lol

NY is very slowly getting deep, although JR's attitude could use a check.

Fuck, I was hoping he'd go to LAC for my fantasy team and because LAC would be even more ridiculous then. Clips need to find a SG and fast.

Good signing for NY.

barbosa to lal or lac?

Stonezz 02-16-2012 02:51 PM

Jr Smith on the clips would be nasty, he should've went there.

Imagine the highlight reels, CP3 lobbing it up for Jr Smith, Blake and Jordan. Wow.

Dark Knight 02-16-2012 02:58 PM

Knicks still need a back-up big man before they can come anywhere close to being considered threats. But still not a bad signing, JR should thrive in D'Antoni's system.

edki 02-16-2012 03:12 PM

interesting who is going to be cut... Bibby, Balkman
any predictions?

imagine D. Walsh popularity rates after he's traded Lin
it may spark "occupy MSG" movement easily

Snooch 02-16-2012 03:59 PM

there goes everything good about Lin.

Anthony, Smith and Amare.

Lin will never see the ball to shoot again.

Well, everyone blows a load over Calderon as a pass first PG around here. Lin will shoot less and get 15 assists. Isn't that what everyone considers a "true PG"

amare and melo he can work with. melo just plays better when he doesn't need to carry the load, plus a lin+stoudemire pick and roll under d'antoni will be a huge threat in the league. JR will be something to see though.

NY trying to set up lin to be the next steve nash, just because andy rautins and toney douglas backfired.

If Kenyon had gone there, oh man that team all of a sudden is one of the deepest and most talented in the league.

Lin
Fields
Melo
Amar'e
Chandler

JR Smith
Kenyon
Baron Davis
Walker
Shumpert
Novak

lot's of talented offensive weapons. Some great scorers and shooters. Their D is suspect though...

D'Antoni cancels everything out

Any major problem I have with J.R. Smith would be his attitude. I think the Knicks could do better with a Raja Bell type of SG, but I doubt the problem is finding that guy.

Amare is not a problem. Stoudemire plays well with this type of guard. Hello, Nash/Amare PnR!

Anthony? That's what I'm curious about. But just as there is reason to be concerned, there are reasons to think it might work.

No. Not exactly.

1 - his first season with Denver he averaged 6.4, which was only a slight drop-off from his last season in Detroit - 6.8. Would you call the Eastern conference champion Pistons chuckers?

2- Billups, despite being in the league for well over a decade, only had a two seasons during which he averaged more than 7 assists.

His career and style of play was not defined by assist totals.

What about Andre Miller?

When he was in Denver, his assists actually went up each year as he played with Melo. His last full season we was averaging 8+ apg and the year he got traded to philly he put up 9+ before he was swapped for Iverson.

Gotta wait and see what happens. But I do agree that the Knicks might be better with a more defensive minded SG who can knock down an open 3. Lin, Melo and Anthony is plenty of offensive power.
