Iverson Deal Done

Allen Iverson has agreed to terms with the Memphis Grizzlies and will sign a one-year deal by weeks end, a league source told Yahoo! Sports on Wednesday.

Hes expected to sign a $3.5 million contract, with incentives to make more based on performance.

God chose Memphis as the place that I will continue my career, Iverson wrote on his Twitter page on Wednesday morning. I met with [owner Mike Heisley], [GM] Chris Wallace and my next head coach, Lionel Hollins.

Iverson, 34, met with team officials on Monday in Atlanta, where they discussed his potential role with the team.

I feel that they are committed to developing a winner and I know that I can help them to accomplish that, Iverson wrote on Twitter. I feel that I can trust them.

After a turbulent season with the Detroit Pistons, Iverson attracted marginal interest around the NBA this summer. Several teams, including the Los Angeles Clippers and Charlotte Bobcats, made inquiries, but only Memphis presented a serious bid.

No contending teams bothered to court the 10-time All-Star after he seemed unable to accept a complementary role.

There's no way he starts over Conley or Mayo.

Thers no way he signed that deal and comes off the bench.... a bet that him starting was a stipulation 'off' the contract, to get him to sign.
he's starting over Conley, Hoops, just watch.

the scary thing is, he's going to play with a major chip on his shoulder this season... i'm predicting AI numbers circa 2005....
oh, and memphis will probably win 20 games in the process, or due to that.

Now, I just hope that the Grizzlies have one of those games where they use vintage/throwback jerseys (original Vancouver ones).

I'd buy the Iverson jersey in a heart beat.

Other than for the attendance and merchandi$e - this signing makes no sense.

My thoughts exactly... the only thing stopping him from scoring 30+ points a game all season is a shortened season.

This totally stunts Conley's growth. The kid was just starting to come around and play better and then he gets supplanted by Iverson. This is such a boneheaded move by Wallace. Now you have Iverson, Randolph, Mayo and Gay..and only 1 ball. They're gonna be the most dysfunctional team all year.

Iverson and Randolph on the same team. I can't wait 'till the Grizz come to town.
That should be hilarious.

memphis pretty much stinks, and has trouble getting fans to watch their games...
they cant relly get any worse off.

AI will put up 25+ and play like an allstar (stats wise) and continue to be a pain in the ass.... idiot fans will think he's awesome.
Randolph will put up 20/10... idiot fans will think he's awesome.

The team will lose a shit load of games, but will be exciting to watch and fans will buy tickets.

Unfortunately, they are selling their souls for money.
Mayo, Conley and Gay will be fighting for the scraps, and their development will be severly stunted.

oh well.

If AI wasn't a selfish ass and played a team game, they could be decent to watch.

Gay, Conley, Mayo, Gasol, AI, Thabeet + Sam young ( i think will be a good player)

Not that they have a snowballs chance to be any better then 13th in the west if all goes well.

They do have a wild card player though-------> Marcus Williams

I think he's signing a one year deal to have one great year and then try to get on with a better team based on that "one comeback year".

makes sense. I hope he doesn't make mayo and gay drop their game. those two have a lot talent to be a dynamic duo.

PG Iverson
SG Mayo

PF Randolph
C Gasol/Thabeet

Iverson and Randolph just killed this rebuilding team.

every game will be 130-120
they have no defense and its a great way to stunt the growth of young players
