Iverson considering retirement

Quote:
Allen Iverson is contemplating retirement if he doesn't rejoin the Grizzlies, according to a source with knowledge of the veteran guard's situation. The stress associated with a family issue plus Iverson's frustration over playing a reserve role might spell the end of his 14-year NBA career, according to the source.

I'm not sure why you're laughing at another man's misfortunes. He's not a team oriented player but he isn't a bad human being either.

AI had a great career overall and if this is it then I hope he can get his family issues in order and have a productive post-NBA life.

Gimme a break. Iverson is a drama queen and just doesn't get the concept of being a good team player. he has no clue.

Obviously i don't wish any ill will to him or his family, but it seems to me like he's maybe kinda using this as an excuse...

He wants to retire? Fine... retire then... nodoby cares.

You're totally speculating. Unnamed sources are suggesting he has serious family issues. I believe that over hate filled speculation on your part.

And judging by how well his jerseys have sold I'm sure there are lots of people out there who do care that the former scoring champ and MVP may call it quits.

I think he'll retire and get voted into the hall of fame during his first year of eligibility.

Former MVP
Two time scoring champ
NBA Finals appearance on a team that he carried there.
Many more items I could list.

Say what you want about him but he's made a greater impact on the league than the Vince Carter has.

So?

Most of us here think that Vince's impact has been more negative than positive. Bringing up Carter doesn't help your cause.

There's no denying that Iverson is/was an incredible talent. He did put up some great numbers and had some huge years. He probably will be in the hall of fame.

However, he's also proving to be a bad guy to have on your team... and he just doesn't get 'it'. Especially in these last few years... he's fallen pretty significantly in my eyes.

My main point was that you were being a hater and pulling crap out of your ass that went against what was reported. Then I gave him his props. He had a strong individual career on a level that deserves a place in the hall and that is all.

pulling crap out of my ass? What are you talking about?

I'm not questioning that he has a family issue. Hell, i offer him my condolences for that.

I'm just saying that he's a bad team player and that he tends to overdramatize shit.. He threatened to retire before he signed with Memphis remember?

maybe my initial tone was harsh, but i didn't realize the president of his fanclub was going to read it.

I have to agree they only way you can appease Ivy is if you surround him with a bunch or role players and defensive players. Look at the time he made it to the finals and won MVP everything was catered to him.

The writing is on the wall. He is a Selfish bitch and a whiner I dunno how you defend that.

Nice form on the back pedal by the way. How does one threaten to retire? Who was threatened by it? Was he under contract at that time? I'm not president of the Allen Iverson fan club but I am chief of the Bullshit Police.

I'm not defending his game. I'm picking apart the enjoyment of someone else's misfortune. Sources say he has horrible family issues and as such that's a laughable situation around here because he's not a "good guy" on the court, it would seem.

how is that back pedaling?

He was threatening or contemplating - whatever - retirement this offseason. and now he is bringing that up again... It does seem like he's giving up on his team (and using his personal problems as a reason for this). Note the word 'seems'... i am stating a perception - not disputing it as fact.

Let's remind ourselves that he was the one who signed with the Grizzlies (knowing that they had talented, young guards who were clearly a focal point of that team). He should have considered that since playing time is clearly so important to him.
If they were winning and he was racking up the points, i don't think we'd be hearing anything about retirement.

Everything seems so convienent for ivy. He doesn't get what he wants on the court and all of a sudden its about the Family. I dunno I bet he had the same "horrid" situations but of course it was not all about that it was about his game back then.

I call excuse. Problably the best way he could help his family is to earn to what problably would have been his last NBA contract.

I think the NBA should honour Iverson.

They should make it official that when a player scores 40 and his team losses, it should be called an "Iverson".

It can be an official stat - "Chris Paul gets his third Iverson of the year as the Hornets fall 120 to 105. CP3 scored 43 points in the losing cause"

If his heart isn't in it then he should retire. If its family issues that put him over the edge then it is what it is. I think you're taking the low road by kicking him while he's down without virtually any details. Maybe someone close to him died or is dieing? Maybe his family member is addict, on the point of no return? We don't know. What I do know is if that were the case, winning or not, he wouldn't be with the team right now. I also know I'm not going to sit here and put my foot in my mouth with only sketchy details.

right, fancy is totally pulling things out of his ass, i mean no one is saying that there might be something between iverson and grizz management and that this might not be a family issue...

oh wait...

Quote:
Despite Heisley's remarks to the media, the rumor making its way through the NBA grapevine, according to a number of league sources unconnected to the Grizzlies, is that Iverson's gone for good from the team.

One rival GM, citing a conversation with someone from the Grizzlies coaching staff, told ESPN.com that the Grizzlies and Iverson had mutually agreed to part ways. According to this source, the word is that Iverson was causing too many distractions and the team didn't want to deal with Iverson's insistence that he be put in the starting lineup.

this may or may not be true, but it's being widely reported, and fancy sure as hell wasn't saying anything that hasn't been said over and over again. nice random attack though apollo.
