FIBA Iverson agrees to deal w/ Turkey Club

Report: Allen Iverson has agreement in principle with Turkish team Besiktas - ESPN

Quote:
Allen Iverson has agreed in principle on a two-year, $4 million contract with the Turkish pro team Besiktas, Yahoo! Sports reported, citing sources.

Iverson is expected to sign the deal this week and report to the Turkish first division club next week, according to the report.

The deal would allow Iverson, an 11-time NBA All-Star, to opt out after the first season, but does not include an NBA escape clause, according to the report.

On Monday, Besiktas executive board member Seref Yalcin told the Anatolia news agency that he will travel to the United States to discuss terms of a possible deal with Iverson.

Yalcin said he would discuss "a variety of details" with Iverson later this week. He said issues included schools in Istanbul for Iverson's children.

Yalcin said "I think this transfer will take place."

Iverson, 35, is 17th on the NBA's career scoring list with 24,368 points over a 14-year career, averaging 26.7 points per game. He won the MVP in 2001 when he led the Philadelphia 76ers to the Finals.

Iverson played in only three games with the Memphis Grizzlies last season before leaving the team to attend to personal problems. He returned later in the season with the Sixers, who drafted him No. 1 overall out of Georgetown in 1996, but took a leave of absence from the team in March and did not return.
Wow cannot believe he did it. That Turkey team is a second tier club and doesn't even belong to the Euroleague. Iverson is in for a rude awakening. Pretty sure he won't last there for more than half a season.

There's some rumors circulating that he will live like a sultan over there lol. Supposedly gets a sick apartment for free and a lot of financial incentives not in the salary.

Also, making $2,000,000 a year in Europe is equivalent to almost $4,000,000 in the USA because the team pays your taxes and its not deducted from the salary. So financially he's getting a $8,000,000 contract for both years in the NBA... doubt someone would've signed him for 4 million for 2 years.

Curious if this originated from a Turkoglu joke. That sandwich looks good though.

wow iverson must be really dumb to play in European NBDL version. 2 mln.. cool but, i guess he could have gotten same money from Euroleague clubs and play in full arenas, Turkey isn't really a basketball loving country...

he finally gets his money, gets to start, gets to shoot and ball hog all day!!!!
i'm betting that in his contract he made a clause that he wont even have to practice!

It really is amazing how quickly Iverson fell out of favour in the NBA. Not one team wants him.

Unfortunate how his NBA career ended but he will be remembered as one of the best of the last decade. He single-handily put Philly in the finals.

He was a beast before knee injuries. He's one tough guy who consistently played hurt (elbow/fingers)... unfortunately when you have knee problems then its over.

+1. He played 100% all the time. He loved playing basketball as much as anyone.
