Magic If D12 leaves Orlando, he wants to be a Knick or a Laker?

Nobody stays with one team anymore? Nobody should point to Toronto as a team nobody stays on. Nuggets, Cleveland, Orlando all have had playoff success compared to Toronto and if D12 leaves, all their players will have left their respective teams. Add to that the possible exiting of CP3 in NO...

What do you think, we he stay or will he go?

Quote:
f he does leave, Howard has his eyes on two teams -- the Lakers and Knicks -- as the big-market destinations where he'll chase down his championships and marketing opportunities if things don't work out in the Sunshine State. The Nets, who are supposed to be in Brooklyn by then, also are in the mix, the person said.

So the Magic are on the clock -- the way the Cavs were with LeBron and the Raptors with Chris Bosh, and the way the bill has come due for the Nuggets and Carmelo Anthony. But if you ask Magic GM Otis Smith -- and I did -- there isn't some knee-jerk plan to deal with Howard's future. Smith has been planning for the next year and a half for the past seven years.
Quote:
What else could they have done? Like the Cavs with LeBron, there'd be no surviving the public outrage of trading Howard now -- a year before this becomes a real issue -- in an attempt to get close to equal value. Think about it, though: If Ferry had traded LeBron in February 2010 instead of imperiling the payroll with Antawn Jamison's contract and watching James leave anyway, what would've happened? The Cavs still wouldn't have won a championship, but they wouldn't be one of the worst teams in the history of basketball now, either.

Realistically, that couldn't have happened in Cleveland, and it won't happen in Orlando or New Orleans. There is no explaining that to season-ticket holders or sponsors, and if that's what it takes to head off disaster in the NBA, then maybe the league really does need a lockout to fix it.

Instead, Smith followed the Cavs' preemptive approach to superstar wanderlust.

He should be fined all of next years salary as he is obviously going to mail it in any ways.

As should any player/agent that leaks this kind of horse shit to the press.

The concept of the franchise player, and the way the CBA locks them in place at the cost of overall team development, is biting the league in the ass. Please go be a Laker at a point where Kobe is in decline. It's time to show the world that you are a Shaq-wannabe with no heart.

If he's smart he'll go to the Knicks... because the Lakers are already on the decline.

Look at the NFL.

You can franchise a FA and you can sign him to a one deal of a certain amount of $$(offer him a contract of 120% of what he made last year or average salary from top 5 position of that same players position). Only can do it to once a year to any player you like(only one).

So if a NFL team has a star player and he is going to leave they will just franchise him and sign him to another year.

EX:
The Eagles plan to use the franchise tag on Michael Vick to keep him them for sure since he came back and was very good again.

I like this i hope they do something like this in the new CBA. What the hell is wrong with players now a days, is there no such thing as loyality or competitiveness. When hear this I get so mad omg.

The franchise tag exists because back in the day the owners wanted protection from their quarterbacks leaving via free agency. On the onset of free agency, the owners figured their franchise centerpieces, the quarterbacks, would always see out their option of becoming a free agent and move to a place where they could make more money, be in a better market and/or play on a better team. By creating the franchise tag, owners figured that they would be able to keep their quarterbacks. What resulted is quarterbacks, knowing they could never become free agents, signed long term deals with the team they were at so they could get money and long term security up front instead of trying to leave via free agency which basically was not going to be allowed by the owner. The NFL owners were trying to prevent what happened in the NBA, where players like LeBron James and Chris Bosh bolted from their teams to greener pastures. If the NBA were like the NFL, these players would never have been allowed to leave by their owners.

he is most likely leaving orlando unless they are able to sign deron wiliams or cp3 but with their contracts they look to be the next cavs in 2 yrs.

i can't see howard on the lakers with bynum and gasol. he most likely has 2 markets being NYK and the nets? not sure where he can go besides lakers/knicks but he most likely isn't staying in orlando with the way the team is playing around him.

if he teams with carmelo and cp3 boy that would be fun to watch.

This could obviously never work, but the Nba really does need to do something....the idea of player's holding teams hostage is bullshit, and is a disgrace to the game of basketball.
