Magic Howard declares he'll become a free agent next summer

This has to mean he'll be moved now, no?

Dwight Howard has repeatedly said he wants to win an NBA championship in Orlando. On Monday while on a tour of Europe with Adidas, Howard, in an interview with NBA.com, once again said his heart is in central Florida but he will not sign an extension and will become a free agent next summer.

I bet Orlando are biggest fans of changing CBA. If they get an amnesty clause plus "franchise player tag", they shouldn't worry at all.

But yea, Howard is taking Carmelo route rather than Bosh route.

oh my word really makes me feel sorry for orlando. i know i shouldnt considering they at least HAD a franchise player (ignoring carter) but its like the difference of going blind after you've been able to see and being born blind. i would rather be the Raptors than orlando right now, ignoring contract situations even.

Yeah, that's true, if both of those things were added to the CBA, Orlando would be in good shape. They could block Dwight from leaving, while also getting Gilbert's contract off the cap related books, although they'd still have to pay him.

But I think it will be very tough for the owners to get the franchise player tag. If they hold out for that addition to the CBA, I could definitely see the lockout lasting a long time.

are you referring to the quote "its better to have loved and lost, than to have never loved at all"? or simply the fact that the Raptors franchise has gone through so much heart break? if the first option, i don't think it applies in this situation, at least for me. its kinda like the expression my grandmother always says. if the hungry has some bread and the rich doesnt, take the bread and give it to the rich because the hungry won't know exactly what he/she would be missing out on if it never gets to eat the bread while the rich will suffer from missing the taste of the bread. i'd rather never have tasted the sucess that comes from a franchise player than to have so and lost it later on.

if you are referring to the second point, well, than i guess i agree with you :P

I was referring to the Raptors sucking so bad that it hurts me inside and i would trade our fan experience with that of pretty much any other team except for the clippers.

Also the Orlando fanbase much like the other one in florida has always irritated me. They can get fucked.

Injuries got the better of Penny. Orlando didn't exactly lose Mcgrady as they traded him away. I'll give you shaq, but who even cares as they've still enjoyed much more success than us. Oh boo hoo orlando.

He better not become a Laker next year, I wouldn't want to play against him 4 times a year. 2 is much better.

So does this mean that D12 is the next in a long list of "villains" now?

Considering he's been to the finals (and never missed the playoffs.. I think?) he probably has less to complain about than most.

considering that he was open and honest and gave them 1 year's notice, i don't see how he can be a villain. it's not like he misrepresented his intentions or his values as a player, or broke the hearts of a city on a nationally televised ego trip.

He's leaving a team that pretty much handicapped themselves financially in an attempt to get him a title.... and will likely go to a team (I'm guessing) to team up with another star (or stars).

Doesn't make him a "quitter" in anyone's eyes? Even though he's said many times that he was happy in ORL and wanted to bring them a title?

it should be an organizations goal to win a title period and not to win a title for ur star player. obviously keeping ur superstar gives u the best opportunity to win and pleasing ur superstar increases the chance of him staying. they failed plain and simple. he's made it clear he wants to win a championship and frankly, i don't see how anyone can honestly think its gonna happen in orlando.
people say you can't win with just one star, i think thats even more true when that one star is ur center.

Oh I agree with you.... not everyone shares that idea though. In the wake of stars leaving their teams there was A LOT of talk about "loyalty" and "taking the easy way out" and "not being a true leader".
