Howard to ask to be traded to Nets... and now off the block?? ... and now back on??

Dwight Howard is preparing to ask the Orlando Magic to trade him to the New Jersey Nets, according to sources close to the situation.

Howard's representatives have told the Nets that they are his preferred destination.

Howard has yet to tell the Magic he will not re-sign with them after this season, but the sources said he will within the next few days, perhaps as early as Friday. There is also a chance that Howard will not attend the opening of training camp Friday, according to a source.

As ESPN.com reported last week, the Nets are ready to offer the Magic a package built around center Brook Lopez and two first-round draft picks, New Jersey's own and one the Nets acquired from Houston in a previous trade, according to sources

This makes me wonder if he was on his way to LA before the Paul trade got vetoed.

Just heard this on the Score.

Could make the playoffs more interesting in the East.

Is this report before, or after, Kardashian quit going to Nets games?

Nets better say their final goodbyes to Brook Lopez if this deal has any legs at all, you can almost guarantee that he'd be going the other way.

I feel bad for the fans in Orlando. There isn't too much after Dwight.

This can't be right.
I mean, they have a max salary player in Gilbert Arenas.
They have 10mil+ in Benchalu
Both Jameer Nelson and JJ Redick make over 5 mil per season.

Clearly those players getting contracts with values that high must mean they're capable players ...

hahahahaha
I tried, couldn't get to the end.
They're done.

Unlike the Paul deal, the Magic would get some great foundational pieces in return for Howard. Lopez is a very good building block, and two draft picks (one likely for this year's deep, deep draft) would further help the rebuilding process. If the Magic can get the Nets to take on some salary (i.e., Turkoglu), then their rebuild could be quite short.

Hedo has to go with Dwight for Magic to even have a chance at a fair deal.... then they can amnesty Arenas and actually start over. Brook Lopez for Dwight though? Uggh..... disgusting. Those first rounders aren't going to be prime..... I'd be trying to talk Dwight into going to the Clippers to play with white chocolate, at least they could ask for the minny pick.

carp 12-09-2011 01:10 PM

Raps should swoop in...... Jonas, Davis, Barbosa, first rounder is a way better package to offer for Dwight, Hedo. I'm sure the money doesn't work, but could if we swapped in Amir for something cheap. Much better than a soft Lopez and two mediocre picks.

I'd like to be the first to welcome Orlando to the table of non relevant teams that draft and train stars for the real teams.

Orlando, you can sit over there next to Minnesota.

To rent Dwight for a year? No thanks.

I didn't keep up with the final deal but couldn't they use the amnesty that was discussed?

obviously not... but I was only suggesting it to highlight how ugly NJ's offer is..... Howard would never re-sign here.

The New Jersey Nets met with Dwight Howard Thursday night in a move that would be a violation of the league's tampering rules, according to multiple sources.

Howard met with Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov and the Nets general manager Billy King in Miami, sources said. Howard was joined by a few business associates.

The meeting violates the NBA's tampering rules because Howard's current team, the Orlando Magic, did not know about the meeting or give the Nets permission to meet with Howard, according to the sources.

True enough - this is what happens when the players dictate where they want to go.

Superjudge 12-09-2011 01:51 PM
