Bulls How good is Carlos Boozer on defense?

Raptors can pick him up anytime they want now. We all know he can score and grab the boards, but his defense is skeptical.

How good is Andrea on boards, defense, durability, consistency, motivation/motor, not being a bust?

Boozer isn't the right guy.... his game is aging rapidly, he looks decent now, but he's undersized, not a good defender, and his contract puts us into the tax and limits flexibility going forward.... try hard to sweeten a deal for Gortat or Pekovic, who both have much younger legs and way more size and two-way play.

He's still a more engaged player than Andrea, is a legitimate low-post scorer, and is a very good rebounder, both things we've been lacking. I really think our only possible shot at playoffs this year is getting him as he's the most talented player in all the Bargnani rumours. Also Nate is head and shoulders above JLIII.

the goal shouldn't just be this season. Also, who said Nate is involved?

Everyone reporting on this rumored deal has said it would be Bargs/JL for Boozer/Nate.

I guess we have to jump off a cliff if everyone said we should?

My bad.

Why would Minny deal Pek for Bargs? From what I remember they were only interested in Pau.

Boozer is 31 and his game isn't reliant on explosive movements. He's more like Zach in that he just uses his body well and puts himself in proper position. I think you're looking for weaknesses and ignoring his strengths TBH.

I'm not saying straight up necessarily, maybe even a three way.... also, I've never been a boozer fan and at times he's looked old... it's not a stretch to say he's playing the best ball we're likely to see out of him now.

I'm just pointing out it's not a deal that propels us to great things necessarily. As for ZBo, dude is in his prime, but I understand your point. Boozer is a savvy vet, which would help, but I'm not a fan of always going after undersized bigs. Gortat or Pek would be guys I'd try to find a way to get before settling on Boozer.

Gortat and Pek are very good players, but I dont see them as a good fit with Jonas. Both of those guys are natural C's and our spacing wouldnt be good. Though if we could get them in a package for Bargs you definitely go for it, and then I'd look to trade them for other pieces in the future.

agreed, but they;d bring a physicality much needed in our frontcourt until JV is ready to bring that himself.

I'm not in a rush for the playoffs this season, we have plenty of time for that next year hopefully. I would rather find the right piece than just rush into it and take on a big contract like Boozers, which might only be a positive move in the short run.

Uhhh... Boozer's a pretty physical player... and he's not THAT "undersized" for the PF spot. 6'8" 250lbs is pretty good and he uses his size well.

I'm talking defensively too. He's undersized, not a great defender, would put us into the tax, is declining,..... I've listed many reasons, not just one.... I just don't think Boozer is a great option for us to chase. No big thing if you think he's the cat's ass.

I'm looking at the next 2 years. That's it. So I wouldn't care about the tax.

I want a legit core in place and I want to see this team go to the playoffs.

IF the team isn't going anywhere in the next year and a half then you readjust and make changes.

I don't think Boozer's "the cat's ass". I DO think that he addresses a need for us at a specific position and plays the way that we need a PF to play. JV and Amir are primarily defensive bigs who have trouble scoring. Boozer brings a different skill set to the mix and creates space for guys like Gay and DD. And again... this is a borderline all-star we're talking about. I don't see much of a downside barring a freak injury.
