Default How Good can Kevin Durant Become?

Quote:
This is the moment. Right now. Defenders -- whatever those are -- reduced to pylons. A nice run becoming an impressive streak becoming something no one has done in nine years. Waiting to see which statistician will be the first to call a 20-second timeout because the scorer's table needs a blow.
At 21 Kevin Durant is a top five player in the league, maybe the second most dominating scorer after Kobe, and one of my favourite players to watch. How good could Kevin Durant get?

NBA.com: Sky's definitely the limit when it comes to OKC's Durant

well, yeah. i wouldn't expect him to beat the raptors.

if players were breakfast items, melo would be an egg and durant would be the bacon. you might think bacon is better, but the egg is better for you.

He's more dominant than Kobe, especially if you're talking about scoring. More ppg at a higher efficiency while having no help (= the defense focuses on him and nothing but him).

If he's second to someone in that category it's to you know who.

As a complete player he still has ways to go, but I think he might be good enough to get an MVP award one day. Which is saying something if you consider his prime overlaps a big deal with that of the soon to be G.O.A.T.

Well, it'll be Durant and LeBron at the top for the next ten years. Looking forward to seeing the two of them square off in future championship series. They'd guard each other too, unlike Kobe and Bron.

He can't and won't develop LeBron's magical court vision, you can't teach that.

Durant will most likely play second fiddle to LeBron for the foreseeable future, but there will definitely be some close MVP races.

he can't be as good as lebron unless he magically puts on a hundred pounds of muscle while keeping the same agility.

maybe i haven't seen enough of durant, but to me, he's just this years 'it' player. he's young, fun with lots of potential. top five? no thanks. top two in a couple of years? i don't see it.

I agree with Funk, even though Im not a fan, Melo is the better scorer and player still as of right now. Melo is more dominant and has more moves at the moment and will be harder to slow down in the playoffs. But Durant is going to be better than Melo in a year or two, hes going to be what Mcgrady should have been. Hes going to create a plethora of 6'10 players coming into the NBA that are SFs and not PFs. Hes going to revolutionize the game. A 6'10 guy with guard skills, guard feet, and guard moves that can rebound defend and pass, and move around the court like any of the small guys. KG helped start the different kind of bigman who can be skilled and step out and play in the midrange area, Durant is going to re change that and theyre going to all be able to handle the ball out past the 3 pt line now and basically be unguardable.

Once Durant(and Lebron especially) develops a post game, theyll be COMPLETELY unguardable to any defence.

20 ppg in his rookie year, 25 in the next, you're right this year he's just hot. He'll go right back to obscurity I'm sure..

Durant is averaging 29.9 PPG on a good team on sick percentages. He is a top 10 player right now, but its obviously yet to be seen if he'll reach that next level come playoff time. I really hope they do make the playoffs though. The league needs the next generation of players like Durant and Rose to be there and make fans of the previous generation with players like KG TD Shaq VC going to be retiring in the next few years, give those fans hope and excitement.

yeah, exactly. the league hypes two players, kobe and lebron. players like wade/anthony fall off when someone like durant emerges into the league elite scorers. how far has brandon roy fell of the map?

I never understood the infatuation with Brandon Roy....

Don't get me wrong now.. I think he's a very nice player who came into the league looking like a pro... but he's not the revolutionary talent that guys like Kobe, Lebron, Durant etc are.

Durant has made a believer out of me. I don't think that he'll slow down. And if/when he puts on about 25-30 lbs. he'll be as devestating and unstoppable as Lebron/Melo.

Also... Wade hasn't "fallen off" IMO. He's still considered a top 5 player by most everyone who regularly watches bball.

Roys only not being talked about because hes injured. Hes still a top player in the league and his PPG has actually gone up this year while avging the same numbers across the board. His 4th qtr performance in games is still one of the tops in the league.

He's not going to become as dominant as Lebron. Offensively maybe, defensively.. not a chance. He's a humble kid who's teachable. Good attributes to go with his PPG
