How come...

...The Warriors seem to be the only team that actually USES the D-League? I mean, they called up Azubuike, Watson, Tolliver, and Hunter all in the last few years, and all are now in their rotation and playing pretty well. Should other teams take notice? I mean, the D-League is no where near the same as the NBA, talent wise, but there's still some nice players floating around. Just look at Azubuike and even Watson. Both are great players that came from the D-League and now teams would've loved to have them on their team.

Thoughts?

The D -League actually has a pretty good pool of talent. More & More teams utilise the league and scouting is farely heavy in the league if i'm not mistaken. Look at Gaines in Utah as well, nice story there.

Heres a quote from Lionel Hollins regarding Thabeet being sent down.

Quote:
"I think we don't take advantage of the D-League enough because of people worrying about the PR hit you're going to take. It's like people would rather have a guy sit on the bench and never play versus going to the minor leagues to play. Baseball has been doing it for years, and it works."
RealGM: Basketball Wiretap Archives: Hollins Calls Thabeet's D-League Stint 'Development', Not 'Demotion'

And it is true. Who knows, maybe if Darko had been sent down he could have been a serviceable player.

Watson's a great scorer...and Azubuike was looking real good before he had a season ending injury a few months ago.

considering the injuries the Warriors have had this season, they have utilized their players from the DLeague nicely.

Answer: They're always besieged with injuries.

Yeah, what's up with that anyway. The last two seasons has been crazy. Is it bad luck, conditioning?

Raps should get hasheem thabeet, just imagine. Oh yeah and no disrespect to canada winning the title in hockey, I love our city but its disapointing that they make us look bad. Canada has too much focus on hockey, Why does the states have to be so diverse in sports ??? alot of cities dont have just one sport.

I wonder if teams would use the D-League more if the affiliates were dedicated or owned by the senior team, like in the NHL minors? In this respect the sr team would have more influence on the development and progress of their talent pool available. I think I recall Colangelo using about this possibility for the Raps.

How is that a reason to get Hasheem Thabeet?

i don't think they emphasize conditioning like the Raptors do. before marco looked soft, now he's looking better than ever (condition-wise) and is even dunking the ball, which i don't think he ever tried while with gs.

The Raps have used the D-league, where do you think they got Moon from a couple seasons ago?

we do indeed have a d-league team (although the actual team seems to change pretty often). We used it for guys like Pape Sow and Nathan Jawai if i'm not mistaken.

And i'm pretty sure that Jamario Moon didn't have any connection to our d league affiliate. He was spotted through the minor leagues, but that's about it.
