Hornets could relocate

If the Hornets fail to reach the 14,735 benchmark average, they would be free to relocate but would have to pay the state a $10 million exit penalty. They also would have to inform the state of their intention no later than March 1, 2011.

Apparently, the attendance benchmark is back on the table for the New Orleans Hornets | NOLA.com

I don't get why Seattle had to relocate to OKC. It should have been NO after that one season they spent there.

After Katrina Stern and the NBA made the call to stick it out in New Orleans as part of the whole rebuilding process. The city and area went to hell and back and keeping the team these was seen as a way to build morale and healing. It was the right thing to do.

but today is today and i would say probably enough time has passed that if it's not working (which it isn't) ownership should probably explore other options.

The issue with Seattle i believe was the arena wasn't cutting it and there was no plan to get a new one. OKC made sense because it worked there for a bit. Still don't think it's all that viable in the long run but time will tell.

I don't know, i think the NBA (like some other leagues) is pretty much operating with a few more teams than it should and the well is running dry when it comes to untapped market.

The Sonics were sold because the government wouldn't pay for renovations to the existing arena.
The new ownership group then moved them because the government wouldn't foot the bill for a whole new arena.

They need to move a team back into Vancouver. I'm sure that the market is there.... just make sure that they get someone who KNOWS WTF they're doing this time.

i'm with TO in bringing Vancouver back in the mix. I mean if Seattle isn't going to get that arena stuff straightened out i guess they're out of the equation.

The other team that needs to move and fast is Memphis. Dead market from the start.

Whatever happened to Las Vegas? I would still want the team to come to Vancouver, but there were a lot of rumblings about Las Vegas getting a team

thats for Sacramento to move to if they dont get an arena
but Vegas doesnt have one either...yet

sure, on a night when the habs aren't playing. the basketball interest is there, but it's not strong enough to compete with the habs i don't think.
