HOOPSWORLD: Minnesota has eyes for Gay

Quote:
An NBA source close to the situation informed your friendly neighborhood columnist this week that the Minnesota Timberwolves have eyes for Memphis Grizzlies swingman Rudy Gay. After turning down a contract extension that was reportedly worth $10 million a year from Memphis in early November, Gay is set to become a restricted free agent this summer.

The Wolves are in need of an impact wing player and believe Gay could be that guy. Minnesota is watching closely how he performs this season. The source indicated that the one concern the Wolves have with regard to Gay is whether or not he will develop that "killer instinct" late in ballgames.

The source also expressed surprise that Gay turned down the extension Memphis offered him saying: "I think he's going to regret that. I don't see how he gets more than that on the open market next summer."

Adding a talent like Gay to that roster is always a good thing. It makes for a pretty nice nucleus.

I'm pretty sure its for Love b/c PF is Memphis' biggest need

Love-Gasol combo would be good

Gay/Love trade

Minnesota does not want Calderon. They already have Flynn and Sessions. If they decide to trade Rubio, they'll probably use him as bait to bring in a wing player. I wouldn't be surprised if Rubio gets sent to Memphis as part of a trade for Gay. Memphis can match any offer Minnesota makes for Gay, so Minnesota may offer Rubio up in exchange. If I was Minnesota, I'd rather have Rudy Gay than Jose.

I wonder how many Rudy Gay jerseys have been sold.
Probably not many with such a politically charged word for a last name.

how about Hedo for Rubio since Minny wants a wing that can score...

the Love for Gay deal is somewhat realistic, but im not sure if Memphis would be that stupid...

I don't think Minny is looking to take a player worth $50 mil since they're not a playoff team
they are rebuilding

Love for Gay actually makes a lot of sense for both sides. Memphis sets their frontcourt for years and years with Love and Gasol which is one of the best offensive frontcourts in the league and they balance their starting lineup, and Minnesota gets a scorer they desperately need and get away from the PF/PF frontcourt that just isnt going to work no matter how talented Jefferson and Love are.
