Heat Home opener not sold out...yet

Good call on firing the sales staff!

Quote:
And Brian Windhorst reports on Twitter Thursday that Miami Heat sources have indicated that "several hundred tickets [are] left for their home opener" against the Orlando Magic on Friday night.

While it's one thing to not sell tickets on the road in Philadelphia, a town that has endured a lot of bad basketball in recent years, it's quite another to not receive a King's welcome for the team's regular-season home opener, against a major division and conference rival and played at a marquee time (Friday night).

While the game will no doubt sell out by tip off tomorrow night, Thursday's report raises two questions. First, what does this say about NBA ticket prices if millions watch at home but 10,000s aren't piling in to see history first-hand? Second, if the online and television interest nationally is so much greater than the local interest, have we seriously underestimated the number of people who are tuning in solely to see James, Wade, Bosh and company fail?

Bosh, LBJ, Wade - they're all there for the weather, lifestyle and nightlife. Same could be said of the Heat 'fans'.

B-Ball's secondary to both parties.

I guess there isn't much demand to see the Heat get dominated by Dwight Howard and friends??

i've said it many times, but Miami and FLorida in general is a lame sports market. They don't properly get behind anything.

In the end it'll be sold out as will most if not every game this season.

oh so it's not the demand.... in that case i don't know who many who would pay that much - but these are scalper prices right?

Well, it's interesting to note that Philly didn't sell out to see them and I thought this was going to be the greatest thing ever or that's how it was sold.

And Miami has been hit hard by the recession. It'll be sold out but at a discounted rate.

no, that is the box office price. but i actually misread it..... that price is the cheapest available right now from the box office.... not necessarily the worst seat in the house.

Philly is philly though. Plus, their team sucks and it's early in the season. I think that they'll be sellouts at most cities they play in on the road. Other then the markets that already have trouble selling tickets...ie: Memphis, Charlotte, Indiana etc..

Miami Heat vs. Orlando Magic tickets AmericanAirlines Arena Miami, FL, Directions, seating chart. Official Ticketmaster site.

Yep. $179.50 for nosebleeds BEHIND the basket!

I've been to America Airlines Arena. Those are WAY up there.

Yes, but all I'm saying is that the NBA and I believe LeBron et al. claimed that there'd be sellouts in all arenas because of them.

And really I'm kinda surprised because LeBron and Wade are typically hot tickets that sell out a lot of arenas.

True, but I think tickets throughout the league will be up in pretty much every city they go. Weren't we the team that visited Philly last season for their home opener? I remember that place being half empty and the fact of the Phillies being in the WS was the excuse. How many fans were at this Miami/Philly game? Was it even close to a sellout?
