Grizzlies Hollins Frustrated With Grizzlies' Lack Of Center Depth Following Trades

Quote:
Explaining the loss, Hollins twice pointed out that when Gasol got in foul trouble, he couldn't put in another big to match up with Luis Scola and Marcin Gortat.

"One of the issues that I have is that neither Darrell or Ed (Davis) are fives. We don't have another big guy. We weren't able to play big and have two bigger people across the board because we don't have a bigger guy to put in the game."

In other words, Hollins no longer had Mo Speights or Hamed Haddadi because they were traded away. Did Hollins mean it as a shot?

Someone give Hollins tape on how to successfully play semi-small with two PFs (i.e. Ed & Amir) in a pinch and make the other team match up with you.

Ed Davis' growth is coming to a shattering halt under this coach.

Wish there was a way we could get him back.

Not this season, the rules won't allow it.

Lionel Hollins is a good coach. Just sayin'

And he's right. Look at how bad we got killed against Cousins.

I guess Hollinger figured through some idiotic advanced stats they're a better team without Rudy Gay, Mareese Speights, Hammad Haddadi and Ellington.

Kudos on destroying the Grizzlies, PER guy. They're basically the Miami/Florida Marlins of the NBA now. There's a chance by the end of the season they might not make the playoffs if Houston continues to play well.

Ed Davis has got a combined 15 minutes in the 2 games he's been a Grizzly. What a kick in the gut that must be for him. Hollins obviously doesn't seem thrilled with him.

And if they were playing Cousins it makes sense...but Scola is a PF and Gortat lives on the pick and pop. IMO there is no reason Davis and Arthur should not be able to match up with those guys. Ed should take that as an insult on behalf of management.

At the same time - I see what Hollins is talking about - they have an obvious hole at the C position when they do go up against beasts like D12, Cousins or Brook Lopez.

This Arthur guy who is in front of Ed in the lineup seems pretty scrubbish. Ed surely has proven more so far than a guy putting up 7/4 and shooting a mediocre %.

Hollins doing a lot of complaining after the Gay trade. He'll be gone after the season. Memphis will be back to being a joke in no time flat.

Sometimes you see fringe playoff teams blow up their rosters to rebuild, but a 4th place team in a tough conference? lol I said before, if I were a Grizz fan I'd be pretty furious at whats taken place. Getting rid of your main scorer, best bench big in Speights and Ellington who was a great 3pt shooter is just terrible.

The team is just a mess. They traded away Rudy Gay and Zach Randolph got only 1 shot in the 4th quarter against Phoenix mostly due to Bayless hogging the ball.

He's not their main decision maker.

Maybe Colangelo should hire Bill Simmons as a scapegoat. It seems to work.

Bayless runs the pick and shoot to perfection.

Yeah, that first trade they did really effed them.... they need to start using a couple exceptions just to add a bench C.... too bad Haddadi can't be moved back.

If you watched last night, they needed Gay back more than any bigs. And the announcers were saying as much.

I loved it when they asked "where is Rudy Gay when you need him"

Gortat is pretty physical though. Yeah, he's a P&P player on, but it's his physicality and his rebounding that could give those guys some fits, especially someone like Arthur.

Personally, I think Hollins is spouting off because he still sees this team as a contender and if they want to contend they need a big. This is a not so subtle shot at management letting them know.

They really lack outside threats as well, to make life easier on Zach and Gasol down low.

Maybe so but it accomplishes nothing that having that discussion behind closed doors can't accomplish. Stating it in public doesn't help anybody. If anything, it will have the same effect as a player demanding a trade on their bargaining power.
