Default Hedo Turkoglu stopped eating pizza

The Phoenix Suns had just lost to the Miami Heat and were getting ready for their flight to Orlando. The team needed a pick-me-up and decided to order Pizza Hut for the flight. Nearly every player enjoyed a slice, but not Hedo Turkoglu.

In the past, Turkoglu would have indulged in his favorite food, which he has been known to eat before games. But since joining the Phoenix Suns, the forward has been on a strict diet that has allowed him to lose twenty pounds.

"I feel great. It was a new start for me in Phoenix so I was really paying attention to the things that weren't good for me health wise. These guys are really good at taking care of players and I've just followed them to lose close to twenty pounds. I feel really great," Turkoglu told HOOPSWORLD.

In September, Turkoglu was weighing close to 255 pounds. But since joining the Suns, he is down to 235 thanks to the team's training staff as well as guidance from Steve Nash and Grant Hill. The two veterans have helped many teammates correct their bad habits and that's why Pizza Hut deliveries are so rare. With Turkoglu, the two realized that he was eating too much fried food and that he would often eat late at night just before bed.

Turkoglu has never been known for his conditioning. In fact, Magic teammates used to joke that he's the only player that was still getting in shape after eighty games. But now that he's adjusting to Phoenix's running style, Turkoglu knew that conditioning and eating right would be necessary.

"Running with these guys is a good reason [to stay in shape]. I'm feeling great health wise and hopefully I'll feel even better when I figure out the team," said Turkoglu.

Building chemistry with his new teammates and adjusting to his new role are the next steps for Turkoglu. The Suns have been using him at the four but have also moved him around depending on match-ups. Turkoglu is one of the few players in the league that can start at power forward against Chris Bosh on one night and then help out with point guard duties twenty-four hours later.

"I'm playing a different role right now than any I have played in my life. We all knew that it was going to take time but I'm feeling better every day. As I said, I've never been in this situation before so it's new but so far it's good," said Turkoglu.

Teammates are already getting along with Turkoglu and understand how valuable he can be for this team once he gets comfortable. With a new focus, diet and role, Hedo Turkoglu is enjoying his fresh start in Phoenix and looking to make the most of this opportunity.

Too much negativity on Turk on this forum. I always respected him and his statistics in Toronto were not that bad. Maybe he didn't score that much, but he contributed rebounding and assist wise when he played.

Now when I remember Turk's criticism of the coaching staff/organization, then I agree with him. He wanted more minutes. I see this problem developing again. Toronto needs to choose 7 main guys to play all the minutes and not have two players of the same position sharing 24 minutes each game. Chemistry better than fresh legs.

Good to hear he lost that weight. I'm sure playing in the World Championship helped.

This is all fine & dandy for him, but why didnt he make those changes fresh off his new huge contract in Toronto for a team that also runs?

I think he's making these changes to prove himself to Toronto, actually. He knows we didn't want him. If he gets in great shape and starts busting ass, he can thumb his nose at us.

That's my thoughts on it, anyway.

You really are new to watching the Raptors huh?

Because yeah, while his stats weren't bad, he was horriawful with this team. He never really tried in any of his games.
