Heat hoping to get Kidd for MLE?

The Heat are knocking on the door of the luxury tax threshold, so the mid-level exception is their only real option this summer.

The mid-level exception, worth roughly $5 million, is all they'd be able to offer a difference-maker.

Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald wrote about the possibility of Jason Kidd agreeing to such a deal on Monday.
Does anyone really see this happening?

Formless 06-08-2009 10:24 PM

No. Jason Kidd is going to ride >$15 mil until he retires.

your kidding right?.......no one is gonna give him 15 mil......

Why would Kidd even think about signing for the MLE with a team that has no shot at winning anything? If he's signing for the MLE it's with the odds-on favourite. It wouldn't surprise me to see Jason Kidd in a Lakers uniform next year.

kidd will be a laker next season.

Windex 06-09-2009 04:18 AM

he's from the Bay Area if I'm not mistaken
so Cali is a possibility and since the Lakers are the only contending team in Cali, that's were he will sign

lol that'll be like when malone and payton joined the lakers. they should keep the team they have now lol.

No, it won't be like the same situation. It's not like the Heat are a mini-dynasty and Kidd's just jumping ship to get a ring. If he really wants a ring, he'd be better off joining the Cavs or Lakers.

Apollo 06-09-2009 12:10 PM

Kidd wants a ring. All the options who can offer him a realistic chance are capped out. Therefore he's probably going to get offers from the likes of the Heat, Lakers, Celtics, Spurs and Mavs. Out of those options who gives him the best chances? The Lakers or Celtics. I'm thinking Kidd will be a Laker next season. They wanted him a couple years back but weren't willing to deal Bynum to seal the deal. Here's their second chance and this times he'll come at a major discount.

Not to mention the Lakers are in dire need of a point guard. Kidd can hit the three better than DFish, defend as well or better than DFish, and his courtvision is perfect for the triangle offense. The Lakers are going to pitch hard for him.

INSIDER 06-09-2009 12:44 PM

kidd is an easy fit for the lakers.
1. they are going to win this season.
2. they are better than all of the other teams on his list.
3. the lakers actually need a PG.
4. he wont have to step on any toes (ie rondo's, parker's)... he'll just tell fisher to get the hell outta the way.
5. kobe and phil would welcome him with open arms.
6. at his age and time in his career, the lakers offense is best suited for his tyle of play, and skillset.

Belsius 06-09-2009 01:03 PM

The problem with Kidd is that he cant shoot. And Jackson wants that in his PG.

Wrong. When Kidd's feet are set he's one of the most reliable three point shooters in the league.

Yep, Kidds a pretty reliable set 3 pt shooter, and thats all you really need out of your PG in the triangle. Not to mention he'll make great post entry feeds and move the ball quicker than Fisher does and not take the same stupid shots Derek does sometimes. Kidd would be a perfect fit in LA

Belsius 06-09-2009 02:11 PM

I agree that his style fits in LA, but I still cant see Kidd 3 point shooting good enough compared to Fishers(until this year where he has been inconsistant of course). I might be wrong.
