Hawks ready to sign/trade Josh Smith?

There are apparently 2 sign-and-trade proposal deals on the table for the Atlanta Hawks to consider. One is from a western Conference Team and one from the East. And both are apparently amongst the NBA's powerhouses.

Yeah, one is Prince/Maxiell/#1 for Smith, and the other is likely the garbage Laker deal.

If ATL gets Prince I suppose Marvin will be the next to go. Pretty incredible that theyre likely going to lose 3 of their top 6 player in one offseason. Sucks to be a Hawks fan

Hmmm .... That's alot of talent to give up for Smith. I think Atlanta's getting the better of the deal in that proposal.

Thug 07-27-2008 05:50 PM

I heard Colangelo inquired but nothing yet. :(

Kirby 07-27-2008 05:52 PM

Prince AND MAXIELL? + A FIRST? GO FOR IT!!!

We have nothing to offer, so I don't see anything transpiring with Atlanta.

Something tells me Dallas is in the mix here... after the Kidd deal, I could see Cuban being a guy that thinks in terms of "fuck it, he's good... I hate the Howard potsmoking asshole... Josh Smith, mmm" Actually it might work in the sense that he could run with Kidd.

Atlanta would probably be kind of dumb to only get Howard and Bass or something for Smith, but what are your alternatives... Odom and Farmar? I'd take the Dallas one.

Kirby 07-27-2008 08:34 PM

Odom and Farmar I would take over Howard and Bass anyday.

Major 07-27-2008 10:56 PM

Lakers should package Odom with someone and trade them for Smith. I'd love to see him in LAL.

The MVP of West Hollywood 07-28-2008 01:48 AM

What about the Suns? He'd fit in nicely doing alley oops with Nash... or would appear to, god knows it wouldn't solve the team's defensive issues

A package including Barbosa and say, Raja Bell? They'd probably go back to the playoffs next year with Bibby/Barbosa/Johnson/Horford/Pachulia with Acie Law, Bell, and Marvin Williams creating a pretty great bench. Then look to bulid for the future around Barbosa, Williams, and Horford, with Bibby's nice expiring contract next year to maybe dangle.

Ball Don't Lie 07-28-2008 07:42 AM

Why does everyone overrate Barbosa so much on this board? Theres a reason the guy doesnt start, and theres 0 chance he'd start over Williams. No way Hawks trade a budding star like Smith for 2 role players.

Well what other options do they have?

No one is offering superstars.

I agree Barbosa is totally overrated, and is much mroe effective playing a combo role off the bench, so I don't really support that proposal either.

But it's going to be role players they give him up for. Tayshaun Prince has been the biggest name mentioned so far, and he's most certainly a role player.

What are your alternatives if the Detroit deal is off the table though

Howard and Bass? Howard is older, a lazy asshole, and screws up your long term plans more than Barbosa (after JJ leaves Barbosa, Marvin, and Horford would all be all starters and all centerpieces)

Odom would be dumb because his contract runs out this year

The best player being talked about is Howard...a Bibby Johnson Howard Horford Pachulia front court, with Williams off the bench is playoff bound.

If i'm ATL i pull the trigger on Smith for Howard and Bass, probably make them through in a first rounder tho...Tayshaun is acceptable, but id rather give Josh Smith to a Western Conference team, who wants to be alley-oped on all day long, that lineup of Billups Hamilton Smith Sheed McDyess would be lethal, love Stuckey as well...Imagine there D with Josh Smith blocking all of those shots, yikes

dfunkie1 07-28-2008 08:04 PM

seriously

if tayshaun prince is a role player, josh smith is d-league material.

i really fucking hate the term role player, especially when it's a player who is essential to the teams success and who easily one of the league top defenders. what exactly makes him a role player? he plays in a team concept? sacrifices his ppg for better shots? such a vague and under-appreciative label. i would take tayshaun on my team over josh smith ten out of ten times, but that's cool if i wanna settle on winning games while others want jersey sales ;)

fuck josh smith and his pony he came in on, the guy blows. he's gonna wash out of the league just like the rider's and miner's who dunked their way into having heads their shoulders couldn't carry.

Ugo Ferst 07-29-2008 02:21 AM

i think Smith has the potential to be a really good 2 way player, if a team with a solid Vet core could intimidate/motivate him to show up and run hard and play D hard everynight.

Belsius 07-29-2008 06:24 AM

Tayshawn is everything a basketball player should be, Josh is another of "those" stars. Give me Prince everytime.

Hilarious.

That is a legitimately humorous comparison.

Miner topped out at 10 points a game and 20 minutes per game. He was never very effective at the pro level.

Rider had legal trouble even before entering the league. He had drug problems and couldn't get along with coaches.

None of that applies to Josh Smith in any way.

I know you dont like Smith, and I know that for some reason his excellent statistical production doesn't register with you, but come on.

I have no problem with you preferring Tayshaun, and in a lot of situations I'd rather have Tayshaun on my team too. But to compare Josh Smith to JR Rider and Harold Miner is completely and utterly ridiculous.

dfunkie1 07-29-2008 02:54 PM

that's how i roll.

smith has had problems with coaches since he stepped on a NBA court. since he doesn't want to listen, i don't think he'll amount to anything. simple as that. i'm tired of josh smith talk, he's an over-rated punk.
