Grizzlies GM: Guarantees playoff spot for 2011

Quote:
The Grizzlies kept their core intact this offseason, while adding complementary pieces.

Memphis general manager Chris Wallace says that continuity is important in the NBA.

"Continuity is very important in the coaching ranks and player ranks," Wallace said. "You build around that. The thing you can't forecast is injuries. But I'm very optimistic we're going to have a better season."

The Grizzlies went 40-42 last season without much production from their bench and Wallace guaranteed a playoff appearance in 2011.

Not gonna happen!

In the East they'd be 6-7th seed. In the West not gonna happen. Their division alone, they're 3rd at best.

You never know. They can come outta nowhere and dominate, they have a very talented team.

I'd say better than NO and Houston MAYBE depends how they play this year. And how bad others play.

The only teams on that they're not on par with is the Lakers, an improved OKC, and a healthy Portland.

New Orleans is a playoff lock because they added uber chucker Trevor Ariza?
I like Houston, but a lot of their success depends on Yao's foot.
San Antonio is going quietly into the night.
Phoenix replaced Amare with Turk - not a sure fire formula for a playoff appearance.

Good points.

If Memphis gets a little better, while old age, injuries and chemistry problems cause a few other teams to slip a bit, then Memphis could squeek in. I wouldn't feel very comfortable betting on this, either way. But Jeff is way too quick to dismiss this possibility. Last season, one of the biggest problems Memphis had was winning on the 2nd night of a back to back. They were a young, inexperienced team that lacked depth. If they maintain their strengths from last season, while also improving just a little in those back to back situations (which some depth should help them do), they will win 45+ games. Next year, that might be enough for 8th.

Atleast they'll be set in a couple years with their young talent... Gay + Mayo + possibly Conley + Gasol + former all-star Randolph = Great core.

NO and Pheonix for sure. And Houston if Yao can't stay healthy.

not pheonix at all. while nash is on that team, they will continually be in the playoffs. the dude played through a bloodied face for christs sake. he can stick it out for a couple more years no matter how bad the remaining pieces are.

there young, talented, and players are playing up to there potential and only get better

its a natural progression for a team that went 40-42 in the tough western conference

the Grizzlies some how managed to right the ship quickly while losing such a great player in Pau Gasol, this could be the rpators future, its crazy because we have so many pieces in play already with Demar,Bargs,Sonny, and Davis looking to burst

Didn't they have 45 wins? Damn, that's fucked up. Gotta feel bad for the Clippers, Warriors etc. Atleast the Raptors have a good chance and a good reason to compete each year.

And how did they improve again?

Regressed if anything, Gay is locked up under one ugly contract.

I would be a pretty upset Grizz fan right now.

Rudy Gay hasn't even hit his ceiling yet, why would Grizz fans be angry if Rudy produces?
