Wizards Gortat thinks the NBA should allow fighting

Quote:
I would say I would loosen up a little bit the rules about the fighting fines. That’s what I would loosen up. Because today you go to an ice hockey game, and the one thing they’re waiting for is a fight, you know what I’m saying? So if they could set it up something like that in the NBA. That if there are two guys and they have a problem, if they could just separate everybody. And these two people that have problem, if they could fight ...
Quote:
Quick, 15-20 seconds, throw few punches, then referees jump in and break this thing up. I think the game ... these two guys, they resolved their problem. They’re both suspended and they’re leaving. But end of the day, they fix the problem between each other, fans are super excited, and I think that would be a pretty cool idea [chuckles].
Quote:
At some point when the referees jump in, then you’d have to stop. You’d have to stop. So I think that would be a great idea, just like the ice hockey fans waiting for that, that’s would NBA fans would get into, as well.

That would be awesome but the reason hockey fights are good is because players are on skates.

Terrible. You'll get d-leaguers injuring stars. NBA already has an issue with injuries with their amount of games throughout the year. Don't need anymore injured players.
I don't watch hockey cause it's violent, which I find senseless. I don't want people watching bbal just for the sake of people getting knocked out... and calling it a 'bad game' cause there was no fight or something.

Gortat prolly thinks he's tough, lucky for him he won't get the chance to have his ass beat by either Hayes or Hansbrough (I would say Amir but he seems more like a lover than a fighter).

I agree they're better but itís not because theyíre on skates imo. Itís because most of the players fighting are actual fighters. Hockey is a sport that allows fighting and therefore has roster spots for players that are specifically there to fight and not do much else. Most of NHL fights are between those players who are supposed to be good fighters and have little actual skill other than fighting. How many players on each team engage in regular fightingÖ..2-3? How many skilled players fight on a regular basis? Out of the approximately 750 players in the league, what percentage of players fight regularly? Also, since itís allowed in Hockey, players are allowed to drop their gloves, helmets, sticks then grab onto each other, skate in circles than pummel each other while everyone just backs off (including refs).

Comparing that to other sports that arenít allowed to grab and hold each other at will and punch each other is a little misleading. Instead whenever anything happens on an NBA court, players are trying to hit a moving target while everyone else on the floor runs at them trying to stop it and itís over before it really begins.

Also, fighting in Hockey has always been there while the NBA/MLB/NFL has never allowed it so itís ingrained in the culture at a young age. It's not comparable with the other major sports in NA in that regard.

If the NBA allowed fighting youíd have less Dwight Buycks and more even less skilled THís at the end of the bench that would be thrown into games here and there to cause shit. Itís asinine to even think about.

Obviously Gortat canít be taken seriously here, heís obviously kidding. Fighting in the the NBA is a stupid notion but apparently Gortat is into boxing so maybe he just wants to be allowed to pound the fuck out of someone.

The fact that fans sit courtside with no separation from the players is pretty good reason to keep violence of any kind out of the game. Spillover would be so easy.

I still remember watching this game live on tv too. It was like opening day. Dont think fighting fits the NBA game, its things like this they try to prevent. Plus it wouldnt be the same when playing on a court with barriers around it. Plus can you imagine someone as big as Ben Wallace punching someone like Rondo or Durant in the face
