Default Gasol and Bynum

My friend and I were having a discussion.
He believes that the best front-court in the league is Gasol and Bynum, and that it's not even close.

I beg to differ.
I believe that there are a couple tandems that are possibly better, or at least close to them. Here are a few:

Amare/Shaq. (Suns)
West/Chandler (Hornets)
Garnett/Perkins (Celtics)
Lewis/D.Howard (Magic)
Boozer/Okur (Jazz)
Bosh/O'Neal (Raptors)
Scola/Yao (Rockets)
Nowitzki/Dampier (Mavs)
Aldridge/Oden (Portland)
Duncan/Bonner (Spurs)

KEEP IN MIND WE ARE NOT FACTORING POTENTIAL OR UPSIDE INTO THIS DISCUSSION. It is strictly about what they are able to do as a tandem RIGHT NOW.

Would you take ANY of the above pairs over Gasol/Bynum? Not factoring in potential.

I'd vote for Lewis/D.Howard (Magic) - the total inside/out game

ya i would go with Lewis and Howard. I would have took Bosh and Bargs second if it were an option.

shaq doesnt play every game.. so that one is not fair.
orlando - yea
hornets - no, CP3 spoonfeeds them, all of chandler's points are perfect passes for alley-oops. bynum/gasol create their own.
perkins is not good... so no. (also gasol avgs more boards than garnett)

as for the rest of them... no

maybe duncan. because unlike kobe... he's won a championship w/o shaq LOL.

I think KG and Perk because of their chemistry and being the best defensive frontcourt in the league get the nod over Gasol Bynum, and Lewis Howard because Howards so damn dominant and Lewis' shooting ability completely fucks up any teams gameplan of trying to zone in on Howard, and Lewis' defence has been impressive at the 4 since coming to ORL.

Amare Shaq is offensively the best frontcourt but their D is the worst so I'd take the Lakers over them.

West and Chandler have been soft this year.

Boozer Okur is close but again Boozers D negates the advantage on offence.

Bosh Oneals chemistry isnt there though the potential would be if JO could ever stay healthy and we could get a good team aroudn them.

Dirk Damp is close too but I dont think Damp has been as good on D as in years past.

Oden Aldridge will be the best in 2 yrs.

And Duncan/anyone is close but no cigar.

So for right now I'd take the 2 mentioned and theres a few close ones but not quite.

I'm really looking forward to seeing Oden learn how to stay out of foul trouble, and in his 2nd yr on the refs stop being fucktards and stop making bs calls on him. Once that happens and he can play 30+ mpg with Aldridge's versatility the Blazers will be unstoppable.

Lewis and Howard, I think they're as good as KG/Perk defensively and are a 20ppg duo offensively. Lewis has been very overlooked in general this season and last... he's been awesome.

well perkins doesnt suck but he's not good either.

u put any starting center in the league w/ rondo, allen, pierce, and garnett and they'll win.

Perkins is definitely a tier 2 center.

No, Perkins is damn good, i think he is top 5, if not def top 10. Well, he fell off a bit recently, so maybe more like top 8 :P

He is defiantly not top 5 in the league. D12, Yao, Al Jefferson, bynum and Bogut, Nene, biedrens, Andrea are better. But yeah he is underrated.

Perkins Top 5?
Dwight, Yao, Shaq, Big Z, Bynum, Rasheed (albeit switches from 4/5), Horford, Bogut, Chandler, Dalembert, Brad Miller, Biedrins, Milsap... and in my opionion guys who "aren't proven" like Bargnani are better.

But I guess perkins having that idiotic pissed off look on his face @ all times gives him something lol.

Al Jefferson is a PF playing C, hes not really a C, its like when Bosh was playing it because we didnt have anyone playing the pivot.

In terms of whose better than Perkins overall:

Z, Sheed(PF/C), Bogut, Howard, Okafor, Horford(C/PF), Haywood(when healthy hes basically the same player but taller and better touch around the rim), Nene, Okur, Kaman, Camby, Shaq, Dampier, Yao, Chandler, Oneal(PF/C), Bynum.

17 guys and a couple thatll be better than him by this time next year in Lopez, Oden, and Marc Gasol.

In terms of defence only, hes in the top 10 though.

The center position really isnt all that bad especially in argument to how many people think its the weakest position. Theres a bunch of really good young centers now in the NBA, if anything its the position with the most potential right now.
