Danilo Gallinari and the Denver Nuggets have agreed to a four-year, $42 million contract extension, according to league sources.

Gallinari, in his fourth NBA season, is averaging 17.4 points and 5.2 rebounds per game for a Nuggets team that trails only Oklahoma City in the NBA's Western Conference and Northwest Division standings.

Drafted in the first round by the Knicks in 2008, Gallinari, a native of Italy, was part of last season's blockbuster trade that sent Carmelo Anthony to New York.

Yeah, i would say around 8Mil.

If we have to sign rather then trade for a SF i would say i guy like Chandler would cost 8Mil range.

demar fucked himself bigtime. if he slightly improves his games over what he did last year, hes looking bargs type deal. the way hes playing right now, its hard to imagine hes gonna get close to that.

Yes, but AB was signed a few years ago when the market was a bit lower. I would guess that at no point during the contract will Gallo be making more than Bargnani is making during that same season. For example, if Gallo's deal starts at $9 mill, that's under what Bargs is making. Andrea makes $12 mill by the final year of his extension, and when he signs a new contract it will probably be for $12+ per (assuming he continues to play well). There won't be a single season in which Gallo makes more, until much later in their careers, if ever.

I think it's too early to call this a good or bad deal for Denver. It's reasonable. He's a respectable 23 y/o SF who can guard small PFs, hit outside shots and get to the FT line at a decent clip. When a player comes off a rookie contract, there is always a bit of speculation about improvement, because most players are not fully developed at that stage. Rarely is the deal based solely on what the player is doing "right now".

That's why we got Bargs so cheap, and that's why his deal was controversial to some. At the time of the signing, Bargs probably was not worth $10 per. But, during the season prior to the signing, he showed flashes of what could be, so BC locked him up on the assumption that he would put it together. Bargnani's agent jumped on the deal, seemingly underestimating what Bargs would be capable of down the road. There's frequently speculation and guessing involved.
There were total clowns who complained about Bargnani's contract, even during this offseason. It looks amazing right now.

Why next year?

Isn't he already signed for the next couple years?

I thought he was making 3.3Mil next season + a TO for 4.5Mil in 2014-15?

The reason is at 0:53 seconds into this video.

For me it's a very good deal...
Gallo has the potantial to be one of the best SF in the league...
a couple of nights ago he just blowed out Melo he is not a spoiled guy , and he is only 23.
I love to see Denver this year especcially Gallo and Lawson... I think Denver will compete for the title this year and if they can resign Ty too even for the next 4/5 years

Kuzzy 01-26-2012 03:13 AM

He should be earning no more than 9 million a year (5years/45 million perhaps)

Kirby 01-26-2012 03:32 AM

he deserves it. If Afflalo got paid what he got paid, I can definitely call this a bargain.

extension would be signed next year unless they allow him to enter restrcted free agency.

TORaptor4Ever 01-26-2012 07:32 PM

The way he's been playing he deserves it. And if he's going to continue to improve it's actually a deal for the Nuggets.

Well-rounded game and pretty efficient. Plays some solid D too. Been very impressed with him.
