Default FYI, SVG on PEDs in the NBA

Quote:
Stan Van Gundy was asked about performance enhancing drugs and the possibility that they are in the NBA.

ďFirst of all, Iím not going to sit up here and say that itís not or wonít be, because you just never know," said Van Gundy. "I donít think, though, that other than maybe the ability to recover quicker out of it, from what I know of the performance-enhancing drugs, I just donít know if it would give as big a lift to basketball players. Itís still a quickness, agility, skill game. Straight power and strength is not going to get you very far.Ē

He was then asked if it could improve a player's rebounding.

ďI donít even know about that. Maybe you could bang around down there. Maybe the guys whose job it is to give six fouls. I donít know. Iím not saying it couldnít help at all, because I canít claim to be an expert on those drugs anyway. But I just donít think that it gives you as much potentially at least as what you can get out of them in football or baseball. And thereís not a culture of it in our sport. Thereís just not a culture of it. And you can look around. You donít see people getting abnormally bigger. Youíre not watching guys come in to our league at 19 or 20 looking one way and then youíre going, ĎWhoa! What happened?í Youíre not seeing guysí heads expand and then putting on unnatural strength.

"Dwightís one of the stronger guys in our league, and look at him: What youíve seen is pretty normal maturity for somebody his age. Iím not going to name any names, but you havenít seen what youíve seen in some of the baseball players. And youíre not seeing outsized guys like you see in football. Itís just not really a part of our culture in basketball, because I donít think you would gain as much. But Iím not going to say itís not happening and wonít happen. I donít have any idea. But Iíd be surprised by it a little bit.Ē

In my opinion, less than 1% of NBA players use PED's. No ne's breaking any big records except Shaq's all-time scoring. Shaq is not the type to use steroids. I doubt anyone in the NBA who is good uses PEDs.

How does this opinion calculate the 1%? Where can I buy one?

I do, because most of my favourite players are european, and europeans are weak so it's obviously not them. haha, just kidding. I would like to see a lot of players get shot down for it.

I think his argument is pretty flawed. The behaviour of the muscles is dependent on the muscle type and the workouts you do to build your muscles; PED's don't prefer one type of musculature over another. There are certainly individuals out there whose quickness and agility has improved after using some form of PED.

Is that so? Go ahead and look at LeBron in his rookie season, then go ahead and look at him now, you will say Whoa! What happened?

edit: sorry about that quote situation, not sure what happened.

Word. The fact that basketball is a game driven by speed and quickness is completely irrelevant to the level of steroid usage as far as I'm concerned. Last time I checked, track and field, sprints especially, involved speed and quickness and running has to have one of the highest per capita steroid-usage rates in all of sports.
