it was a reaction to the huge post that flamed a guy as "a douchebag Lithuanian".
It was deleted, so now that reaction is redundant.

I guess whoever deleted that post didn't think it sits well with whatever boundaries to equal opportunism there are.

Personally, my skin is thick. And same goes for most Lithuanians who've been around for a while.
Many of us don't mind national slurs. We are kind of used to it.

Mel Gibson said that California is full of sharpteeth Lithuanians with baseball bats.
David Bowie played a sociopathic alien who pretended to be a Lithuanian.
Hannibal Lecter turned out to be a Lithuanian cannibal.
And there were like 2 million Lithuanian prostitutes on The Wire.
So by now it would be hard to tick me off about my nationality, personally.

Then again, what's next? Wandering jew? Racial slurs? There are limits to opportunism. And that was simply a /sigh post at it.

I deleted the post and I was actually referring to taking people taking offense to the Arvydas Sabonis comments.

Yes LKeet, I get it, you don't like me very much.
Then again, it may be time to get over it. A couple anti-ValanciunasFanboy posts a day from the same guy who doesn't post that much overall - that is a little creepy
You should just ignore me, I won't mind.

Let me clear this up, since you seem to have taken issue with my reference to 6cubed's nationality. I mentioned it because, in my opinion, he treats situations differently depending on whether the person being discussed is lithuanian. That's annoying to me. He is inconsistent. I think he is so sensitive about the earlier jokes because of Sabonis's nationality. That's the only way I actually think nationality is relevant here, and that's the only motive I had for mentioning it.

Nobody wants you to tolerate national slurs. Nationalism is dumb. There is just a confusion here as to why I raised his nationality.

Nationalism is mostly a construct. It means nothing in reference to absolute fixed qualities of a group of people, given that a nation can be very diverse. Sure, there are cultural dimensions that lead to probabilities about particular customs and behaviour, but it's never absolute. There is no definition of a "typical Canadian" that applies to everyone. By virtue of knowing this, any comments I make about people are not motivated by a genuine dislike for any particular nationality.

Look, if you're actually offended, then I apologize (to you, as an individual).

As I said, I'm not.
I wouldn't even be discussing this, my original post was more about the flame war potential in this.
Constructs like "douchebag Lithuanian" or "stupid Jew" or whatever do tend to draw a lot of attention to the second word, even when it's unintentional.

i was attempting to ignore you (replying to people's responses to you is not replying to you,) as you've got it bang on, i don't like you. But i'm a sucker for trying to put right what once went wrong (quantum leap anyone!?)

basically, people take exception to things that you have said and then you reply by saying "only joking." or some comment like "this is weird," "or this is creepy now." Followed by an annoying smiley face.

not gonna comment on the tastefullness of grannyfro's comments but they were so clearly not serious and the feeling i get as well as from others is that's never clear with you, and i'm not sure you always know either, just conveniently say so afterwards.

as this will be the last time i converse with you i would like to put it on record that my grandmother was lithuanian and my grandfather was belarussian and i have a big affinity with those countries so there is certainly no nationalistic motives from me.

man, i didn't discuss grnnyfro's comments at all here.
i once mentioned it in another thread only in the context that it's not for me to judge what humour is fine or not and that I'm not making a big deal of it.
I know it's for fun, I'm not laughing because heart attacks and penises don't make me laugh, but it's my personal choice. It's got nothing to do with you. And I wasn't advertising it.
And yes, you stalking my posts is creepy, you don't even read them well, you can easily ignore me.

PS forgot the smiley face!

I will try to steer this thread back into the right direction:

"

The legend of Sabonis grew after the game. The United States would play Croatia in the gold-medal game eight hours later, allowing for a time gap between the bronze game and the award ceremony. Sabonis and his teammates ventured back to the Olympic dormitory, where Sabonis challenged fellow Olympians in arm wrestling for shots. One by one, wrestlers and shot putters among them, Sabonis beat them. By the time of the award ceremony, three Lithuanians did not make it to the podium. Sabonis was one of them. "I knew how they used to roll," said Chris Mullin, part of the United States' Dream Team. "I think they came out with their tie-dye on. They did what the Deadheads do. They got loosened up. Made use of their free time."

Sabonis was located a couple of days later in one of the women's Olympic dormitories.
