They should still call this kind of situation a charge, but the contact needs to be there too. If the offensive player stops short, to where theres minimal contact, after the defensive player comes over, and the defensive player falls over, it should be a no call/play on, and a fine for the defensive player.

You can still play good positional defence and disrupt the play without throwing yourself backwards. If they dont hit you hard, play on and keep rotating, its that simple.

The less stoppages in play/fouls the better. The best games to watch are the ones with flow with the teams moving the ball and the refs letting them play(to a point obviously). Hopefully with less flops and less players trying to draw fouls with minimal contact, the games will be shorter and more fun to watch.

IMO something like this should be a suspension.

Like everything - the refs calling the block/charge is a product of what the players think is a block/charge. It's the players determining the line between legal & illegal, the officials just enforce that line to the best of their ability.

That's why their is no block/charge in pick-up. If you don't give yourself up and fall to the ground it isn't a charge. The game played naturally with no officials has no block/charge call....so in that sense - yes you need to fall to get the offensive foul called.

And is it flopping if you simply put yourself in a position where contact will knock you to the ground?? To me that isn't a flop - and that's how you take a charge. You take a risk by leaving an active defensive position, giving yourself up to take a charge.

I read your post two more times. I realize you're talking only about post defenders. So disregard my comments about defenders stepping under or sliding under running or jumping player.

I admit I didn't say what exactly the points I disagree with you on...

I think taking full contact rather than sliding under will lead to a better defensive effort and may even result in less injuries as offensive players will not be tripping over someone who just went down under their feet. I don't have prove other than my own experience but I think less injuries occur when players ready for full contact.

Reconsidering the rule, I don't think it's the block/charge that is really targeted by this rule - if anything I think it will be the flopping on the offensive side of the ball - and that is where players really get away with it and force the officials hand.

I know, I won't argue that. Players with character and a bit of respect can call, and will allow the call. Most people you see out there are weak. They lack skill and character. It's sad.

I think you're mistaking lack of skill and character for skill and character.

You possess dynamic thought so their is still hope for you yet.

you need to be called 5 times for a suspension. i dont think any player will get caught flopping that many times.

This flop should have had Bosh tossed from the game, with a 1-3 game suspension.....it makes me so sick every time I watch it

Edit: didn't realize this was already posted....none the less, its so bad, its worth the repost

I think it was an incredible flop. Boozer is so wild with his elbows - no honour lost in bringing attention to this with some well timed acting.
