Fernandez Down and Out

was this really necessary?

and do u think it was intentional or accidental?

I think it was accidental but Roy did the right thing by getting in Ariza face...

I tend to rip my roommate up with Rudy in NBA 2K9, so he's definitely going to try and make me throw him on the inactive list. I'm going to see how long I can hide this from him.

Accidental or not though you're right, Brandon Roy had to get in Ariza's face. It's still hard to tell what exactly he hurt when he hit the ground...

Ariza should be suspended for the course of the regular season and the playoffs. Also, he should be fined $100,000.

was a bullshit play.
just like horford on Ford....it's what passes as "hard" nowadays with these little spoiled brats. he is gonna get away with it too, no suspension, I just read it.

You'd think the guys making the calls at head office had never played before. Those massive arm swings, at head level, at high speed from behind are not even TRYING to disguise themselves as block attempts.

He knocked Fernandex out before he hit the floor.

Then had the gall to thug it up and act like he was all bad, while they were still putting Fernandez on a stretcher.

What a fucking douche. Period.

Talk about ZERO respect for your fellow players man, thats just brutal. How many is that now this year league wide?

This happened so fast, so fast, Fernandez has some real quicks, but i think Ariza tried to play the ball. It was a case of alot of momentum and being up in the air when he got slapped across the head. Small chance of being suspended, since neither Rudy nor Ariza are star players. The fall made it look way worse than it actually was, still feel bad for the guy tho.
Nice to see Rudy's team mates standing up for their guy, getting up in the face of Ariza, obviously got some good chemistry in Portland.

- he isn't looking ANYWHERE NEAR the ball on this play. Terrible call. He's all sorry today npow that Rudy is out, claims he was trying to make a good play....rubbish, look at his face. Is that effort, or anger?

The problem with this play is not the intention (I really think he was going for the block) is the fact that its a completely stupid and innecesary foul. Losing by 30, the guy has already beat you, let him get the dunk and don risk a serious injury. Like I said in the other thread, Rudy got lucky his elbow didnt get caught up under his body.

He should get a couple of games. And again its not about playing hard, is about being a smart and know where to foul.

What is with these Spanish players suffering potential, or in Garbos case, career threatening plays that could have easily been avoided

it was a play at the ball.

it was pretty obv he making a play on the ball, and no, i hate players that give up in situations, you dont teach your team to turn it off and on if your a good coach and you dont if your a good player, YOU ALWAYS TRY AND MAKE PPL EARN BUCKETS, garbage time, crunch time, lunchtime, it doesnt matter, i want guys like that on my team, hardly dirty, just a bad situation. Horford showed real remorse, im not sure what ariza did after, who knows, but im not hating on the play

Total bullshit foul by Ariza. Roy or someone else should have punched his teeth out, just like a Raptors player should have stomped Horford last year. (Or least have tried to).
You've got to have ZERO tolerance for guys fucking with your teammates. Maybe that's just the hockey player in me talking but scumbags will take liberties like that if you let them.

I'm 50/50 on this one, I think he partially tried to block it, but in doing so I dont think he cared if he missed and hit Rudy. So in a way it was intentional, but really its the fall that got him the ejection. If Rudy didnt fall violently Ariza would have got a flagrant 1 at most. But again, its obviously almost impossible not to fall violently when going 100 mph.

Ariza should have got a game suspension.

I agree with SJ on this one. Ariza made a play to foul, not for the ball. Coming from behind on a drive to the basket, it's very dangerous. The same thing happened to Ford, and he almost retired (the second time!).

Ariza should get a game or two suspension. By not giving him anything, this basically encourages the Lakers to thug it up in the future.

Whats the difference a hard fouls a hard foul, he didnt want to injure or hurt the guy, yes he behaved like an ass after the fact but thats beside the point. If a guy is under the basket going up to dunk surrounded by a bunch of opponents, the opponents are expected to wack the shit out of him so he has to earn it at the line, is that not 'very dangerous', he could have his eye poked out or retina detached. If a guy is breaking away and driving to the bucket, is it not the job of the opponents to try an play the ball but if you dont you at least do enough to take away the easy points, yes its 'very dangerous' but you know there should be no easy baskets. Is it the defending opponents intention to hurt or injure, i doubt it, its just trying to stop the easy bucket.
The Raptors are the worst team in the league for letting opponents score easy points on the break away, since the Celtics game when Garbo got injured in a freak accident, they never ever challenge, especially Jose.
