Logo ESPN's Top 20 Sophomores

I saw this on ESPN but couldn't access it (not an Insider). I found it elsewhere through the power of the internet. David Thorpe's ranking of the Top 20 Sophomores:

1. Anthony Davis, Pelicans
2. Andre Drummond, Pistons
3. Damian Lillard, Trail Blazers
4. Terrence Jones, Rockets
5. Jonas Valanciunas, Raptors
6. Miles Plumlee, Suns
7. Bradley Beal, Wizards
8. John Henson, Bucks
9. Terrence Ross, Raptors
10. Jared Sullinger, Celtics
11. Draymond Green, Warriors
12. Dion Waiters, Cavaliers
13. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Bobcats
14. Patrick Beverley, Rockets
15. Jeremy Lamb, Thunder
16. Mirza Teletovic, Nets
17. Maurice Harkless, Magic
18. Brian Roberts, Pelicans
19. Mike Scott, Hawks
20. Thomas Robinson, Blazers

Interesting list. Raptors getting some love with 2 in the top 10. I think I'd have Lilliard above Drummond and I was a little surprised to see Terrance Jones that high but don't have any real issues. Wondered where Harrison Barnes was, but a quick look at his year and how he hasn't really progressed much over last year answered that.

I think they should give some weight to how the respective teams are doing, and how the players are handling their roles. drummond shouldn't be second because detroit is a turrible team. If he really was the second best sophmore, you'd think his team would be doing a bit better

The top 5 is ok, and are definitely the top 5 prospects, though I wouldnt put them in that order, but the rest of the list is shit.

I can see why Jones is put ahead of Jonas, but I don't agree that he'll have a better career. Jones is extremely skilled and talented, but he's a huge defensive liability and struggles with consistency. When he puts it altogether though, he'll be a Lamar Odom clone IMO.

Plumlee is way too high. He's a solid player, but I don't think he has a very high ceiling. Beal and Ross are definitely the next two in line.

and from a center who's known primarily for his defensive potential, that's pretty damn sad.

I'm sure he'll get better. That team needs to make changes. Plus they need to lose Jennings and Smith. And Charlie V lol. Funny they got rid of Brandon Knight to bring in Brandon Jennings. That's a big downgrade...

the only question mark for me is Plumlee.
i was a big Suns fan this year (my second fave team to watch), and i mustve watched 50% of their games on League Pass... Plumlee had a stretch of about 3 weeks where he was awesome. scored, grabbed boards, had a bunch of blocks. kinda came outta nowhere and really impressed. after that, he fell back down to earth and was very average.
he shows some flashes of crazy skill every now and then, but with him - what you see is what you get. i dont see him really blowing anyone away and turning into a dominant C (as JV looks poised to do).
he's serviceable, and will have a decent career, but he isnt going to be anything special. in fact, the suns didnt even really play him much in the 4th quarter of their games. the Morris twins stole all those minutes, and i see that trend continuing next season.

man you right. his averages along with his 22 PER and being around top 15 in win shares don't mean shit. also doesn't have much room to grow after hitting 20 just recently.

10 years ago, Drummond might be really really useful to a team. But in a game favoring more and more dynamic players, from pg to center, he won't have the same impact.

I'm not saying he'll be bad. He's obviously athletically gifted. But offensively he is so damn raw. and defensively, well his DRTG says it all. Today's NBA promotes skill a lot more than size, very different to the NBA during shaq's tenure.

Except even then, Shaq was beyond skilled. Drummond will be a big body, similar to Deandre Jordan. Except DJ is a monster defender, where as Drummond hasn't shown the potential to be at all.
