Don Vito 02-18-2012 12:18 PM

Urban dictionary to the rescue.

Quote:

An narrow opening and vunerable area in one's armor that the opponent will usually aim for. This term relies on "chink" in the sense of "a crack or gap," a meaning dating from about 1400 and used figuratively since the mid-1600s

Windex 02-18-2012 12:21 PM

ESPN changed it now

Barracuda 02-18-2012 12:22 PM

Yeah, they had to. People were going nuts over it. Even Don Cheadle was givin' em the business.

TORaptor4Ever 02-18-2012 12:34 PM

LOL... came here to post that. Hoo boy.... someone's in trouble for THAT mistake.

Pay no mind to the racist Laker lovin' assholes on some backchannel at ESPN.

Some dickfaces need to get fired, accident my arse. If somebody used the N word or a gay slur, would they be able to say it was an accident? No

I heard they were just quoting Bill Russell, and they thought it'd be funny. Listen, Bill Russell is old, and he grew up in the 60's, and he's old. If he was put up to it, so be it, he's old and probably drinks like a fish. ESPN should have more dignity, and they also need to turn the court mics up during games, I can't hear shit.

carp 02-19-2012 11:44 AM

I thought this was a written piece.... that's making something over nothing.... ridiculous.

It's an expression though and has no racial meaning to it.

Due to other factors was this not a good time to use that expression? Probably not.

Don't compare it to some other racially charged words, it's not an apples to apples comparison.

What is a common expression that uses the n-word that wasn't racially derived?

I understand why people might not think it's appropriate and likely wasn't the best choice but there isn't anything specifically wrong with it.

SomeDPlease 02-19-2012 01:00 PM

Chinkballa88 is more "racist" than "a chink in the armour", if that.

Barracuda 02-19-2012 01:19 PM

The guy got fired.
