:jack: Hibbert + Bynum

R.I.P Miami?

The Indiana Pacers are planning to sign Andrew Bynum, according to sources.

There is no deal in place, but both signs are discussing one.

Bynum was released by the Chicago Bulls on Jan. 7 after the Cleveland Cavaliers dealt him.

The Cavaliers suspended Bynum for conduct detrimental to the team prior to trading him.

Indy Star first reported Bynum & Pacers were meeting tonight. There is no deal in place as of yet but talks are serious, sources said.

he's willing to come off the bench?

Diamond Scorpion 02-01-2014 12:41 AM

This will destroy the Pacers chemistry. Why the fuck are they planning to sign this asshole? Guaranteed he will get there and bitch about playing time. He is not getting minutes over Hibbert, West or Scola. Hell, I'd rather have Mahinmi playing over him because at least Mahinmi gives a shit about the team, knows his role and doesn't act like a stupid selfish cunt. The only way this signing would be good, is if they sign him and tell him to stay away from the team and not release him. That way Miami have no chance of getting him. If they take this route, Larry Bird is a genius.

He'll probably be sent home if it doesn't work, chill out.

MBailey85 02-01-2014 04:39 AM

I hope they don't do this. He's a goof! Bynum should go back to the Lakers. Maybe with Lopez out,the BK Nets could be a good fit if Garnett has the patience to take him under his wing.

woodchuck 02-01-2014 07:23 AM

He would probably be on a fully non-guaranteed contract, so they can cut him at any time if he doesn't behave.

They could use a center. Mahinmi has been mostly terrible this year. Besides, they have no 3rd center at all, and they don't have anyone like Amir either (a PF who can step in and do a solid job at center if necessary).

Low risk, high reward type of move. I'm sure if they see any negativity in the locker room they'll cut ties right away.

ClutchCity 02-01-2014 10:36 AM

What woodchuck said.

This is a dude that was still putting up numbers with the Cavs just a few weeks ago. When I watched the Cavs this year, I noticed that those young players were more perimeter oriented and didn't really know how to make a simple entry pass. They were horribly misusing him when he was on the court. They don't know how to play an inside-out game. That's Bynum's game though. You look at a team like the Pacers, they run their offence through the post with that starting lineup. Those starters know how to make an entry pass and feed off post play. I'm sure Indy would love to do this all game but the truth is, when Hibbert comes out and Mahinmi is in, they have no choice but to change their offensive strategy. He's not a good post player and is pretty much an offensive liability. With Bynum replacing him, they can play their style of offence for a full 48 minutes. That's big. Remember, this starting unit for the Pacers outplayed Miami's last year in the playoffs (+44 or something for the series coming into game 7 iirc). The thing was, when Hibbert wasn't in the game, Miami took advantage big time. Bynum can be the answer to that. He's still a big body, and while he's not very quick laterally, he's always been a guy who can alter/block shots at a high rate.

I was telling my friends a couple weeks ago that when you look at what's best for Bynum and the team that would be signing him, there's no better fit than the Pacers. They have a legit chance at a ring this year, they play a slower, half court, inside-out offence that fits Bynum's game to a T. It's also a good fit defensively as Pacers are with the "defensive anchor" philosophy. It's why I thought Miami shouldn't go for him (not a great fit on offence or defence). At the end of the day, Bynum is money driven. It's clear that he's been waiting out on a bigger offer for weeks, but it just hasn't come. It makes sense to go a contender that fits his game. And if he can contribute + win a ring, it bodes well for his chances at getting a bigger contract this summer.

I didn't think this was likely however, because I didn't think Bynum would accept that role (Hibbert's backup). But if these rumours are true and he's willing to sign, I think it's a huge deal assuming he's healthy. And if it fails, hey, like woodchuck said, you can cut him, or as another player might say, "ship his ass out!".

INSIDER 02-01-2014 11:22 AM

This is being done, first and foremost, to make sure he doesn't go to Miami.
And if he actually can put up some solid backup minutes, it's a win-win for the pacers.
Mahinmi hasn't produced backup numbers this year and we all know that Bynum is light years ahead of mahinmi in terms of skill. If he can do anything over 6/5 it's a great signing.
And if he causes problems in the locker room, he's gone.
This is a great move by Indy IMO.

Pacers Sign Andrew Bynum | THE OFFICIAL SITE OF THE INDIANA PACERS

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Pacers announced Saturday they have signed free agent center Andrew Bynum to a contract for the remainder of the season. Per team policy, no terms were released.

“We are obviously happy to have him join our team,” said Pacers President of Basketball Operations Larry Bird. “He gives us added size, he is a skilled big man and he has championship experience. With the minutes he gets, he should be a valuable addition.”

Bynum will join the Pacers sometime next week.

“It really wasn’t a hard decision, I think it’s the right fit for me and, in all honesty, I think we’ve got the best chance of winning,” said Bynum. “It will be great to back up Roy and I’ll do whatever I can to help this team.”

I'm just happy Miami did not get him. Either way, first time he acts up, the Pacers better send him home and let him rot there.

Honestly i always get confused when it comes to that shit. We always seen to have problems doing things when it relates to that kind of shit and yet teams seem to spend no matter what.

DuCa00795 02-06-2014 02:12 PM

Probably a bets min, he most likely doesn't care for much because Cleveland waived him and are still paying him a bunch.
