Ellis on the move sooner rather than later

Quote:
One source said that Fried tacitly has been given the go-ahead to try to come up with a trade, but that team president Robert Rowell may not yet have officially signed off on it.
Quote:
his agent is scheduled to meet with team management in Oakland.
Quote:
Rowell and GM Larry Riley apparently will represent Warriors management in this meeting.
Quote:
Multiple sources say that, apparently at Don Nelson’s urging, the Warriors have been calling teams and offering to trade Ellis in recent days.
Quote:
Ellis’ grievances with the Warriors date to their handling of punishment for his scooter accident and to concerns about Nelson’s commitment to him as a player and to Rowell’s decisions as the team’s No. 1 executive.
Quote:
personal promises made by Rowell to Ellis and Stephen Jackson at the end of last season that the Warriors would upgrade the roster significantly in order to make sure this year is not wasted.
Quote:
Two sources say that Nelson embarrassed Ellis when Ellis tried to step into a leadership role in the aftermath of the 28-point home loss to the Clippers on Nov. 6.

The sources describe the scene in the post-game locker room: Ellis, as a co-captain, began loudly addressing to his teammates, telling them that this performance could not be tolerated.

But then Nelson came into the room and told Ellis to be quiet.

Speaking to reporters a few minutes later, Ellis was near-tears. A snippet…
Quote:
Ellis accused Nelson of blaming him for everything. When Nelson denied it and then walked away, waving his hands, Ellis said:

“See, that’s why I won’t do it. I just won’t do it.”

What did that mean? My read: Ellis was saying that whenever he tries to lead the team, it’s rendered meaningless because the coach and management disrupt everything.

Ellis has his own weaknesses and is far from a perfect player, but he is not wrong on this point.
Quote:
he sees how little Nelson cares about building a real team and sees the bumbling of Rowell & Co.
Quote:
Like so many other players before him, he is realizing the hopelessness of life with Nelson, Rowell, Riley and Chris Cohan
Quote:
He wants out. Just like Stephen Jackson. Like Al Harrington. And, probably, like Anthony Randolph in a few months and Andris Biedrins and… well, you just name the good player.
Ellis/Warriors situation set to hit full boil at Thursday meeting: Trade inevitable? | Talking Points

As much as I love Jose Calderon, I think Mota Ellis is more suited to what the Raptors want to run both on defense and offense and I think that he would be a better quarterback pairing with Hedo Turkoglu. I think Monta is a very good guard with his heart in the right place. I hope the Raptors are atleast talking with the Warriors.

I would love to grab him, but i don't see it happening at all. I think BC would balk at trading Calderon, which would be one of the players they'd likely ask for. One thing is obvious by the way that team is run, Nellie really needs to go. He has no clue how to utilize good young talent.

Secondly, as i said last week GS was stupid for not trading Ellis and Jackson together, they would have gottan a huge package for those two together imo.

since armchair pretty much nailed this, i see no reason to add anything to his post.

Of the two, financial considerations is by far the most important right now. A few teams have been hit real hard by the down turn in the American economy. Some potential trading partners who otherwise would be interested aren't biting, because they are saving their money for 2010. Plus, Golden State is pursuing the possibility of new ownership. Bad economy + 2010 FA market + possibility of new ownership = trades that seem very unbalanced in terms of skill on the court (although I do agree with SJ that Bell is awesome role player, Bell was included because his contract is expiring - he has a torn ligament and probably won't ever play for GS).

What team would want both Jackson and Ellis? Packaging them might make a trade harder, in my opinion. It's easier to deal them seperately. From a talent perspective, you're right, Jeff, the package would be attractive. But, from a financial perspective, Ellis and Jackson would be way too risky, unless a team could dump garbage contracts on Golden State. And, obviously, GS wouldn't want that. GS would want valuable expiring contracts or players with real talent. Combined Ellis and Jackson are due to make over $18 million this year (Ellis 5yr/$55 mill). Unless a team below the cap is a trading partner, the team acquiring Jackson and Ellis would have to send back at least $15 mill in salary to make the deal work. Right now, very few teams have expiring contracts (or close to expiring) worth $15 mill to send back to Golden State. The teams that do have expiring contracts, like New York and New Jersey, are trying to save cap space for 2010. The Nets could probably have upgraded their team substantially by trading for Ellis and Jackson, and could have offered expiring contracts and a young prospect or two, like Courtney Lee, Douglas-Roberts, or Terrance Williams. That would have allowed the Nets to start Harris, Ellis, Jackson, Yi, and Lopez. If it happened, that lineup would propably make the playoffs in the near future. But the Nets are determined to test free agency. Right now, there is a perfect storm working against Golden State. The fact that its players have reps for having bad attitudes only makes matters trades more difficult, and that's why they appear to be getting robbed by the Raps and the Bobcats.

The risk/reward in dealing Jose for Ellis in pretty high IMO..... prob too high to explore.

The only PG's I'd take for Calderon are Nash (for a year), Paul, D.Will, Billups, Rondo and Rose.

Calderon is better than the rest.

(I excluded Jameer cuz he's always injured).

I remember in the summer a bunch of you proposed trading Bosh for Biedrins/Ellis/Belinelli.... that would've been GREAT!!!

They would without a doubt take on some expirings(if the past trades have shown anything)

Amir/wright/filler would probably get it done

Raps would be able to push the ball and allow Hedo to work his magic more often as well.

One question though -I've never been to Toronto during the winter- are mopeds a realistic mode of transportation in the winter months?..My approval depends on that question.

Don't want Monta on this team. He's a dink and very inefficient

This Nellie era is just classic. It's reaching Isiah Knicks and Jailblazers level of legendary comic value. I love Nellie

Too soon, too soon...

I'd love to see Monta in a Raps uniform. This "dink" side of him never really came out until the Warriors started sucking the big one. Put him in a good situation, Toronto, and he'd produce without talking up a storm.

i know i may get flamed for this, but i'd take Ellis and have him be our starting SG.
give the Warriors JJ and Amir and a second rounder.

i'd favor monta ellis on the team as well. alot of the points people made here are valid.. jose can go i dont really mind him, he can go on a offensive tear at times and move the ball extremely well too, but the raps would benefit from monta ellis's toughness and ability to slash, he also has a decent shot.. and also i believe he'd play better defense then jose..

PLEASE bring monta to the raps..

plus 1

Although I dont know if they want another pg.

A three way involving a team in need of a pg(Orlando, Miami, Philly) for another winger or expiring going to GS would probably get it done.

Jose Calderon is a non-factor way too often.

That JJ proposed trade is actually decent and would help both teams.
