76ers Eddie Jordan fired

No big surprise here.

Quote:
Philadelphia 76ers President and General Manager Ed Stefanski announced that the team has relieved Eddie Jordan of his head coaching responsibilities. Effective immediately, the team will begin its search for a new head coach.

"Decisions of this nature are never easy, but I am making this change because I didnít feel significant progress was being made on either end of the court," Stefanski said. "As the season progressed, it became increasingly clear to me that this was necessary in order to provide a new direction for our team and gain more continuity."

Team really underperformed this year. I wouldn't be surprised to see Lawrence Frank take over.

Sounds about right...

Default Sixers Fired Their Coach, Let's Fire Triano Now!

Raptors had a under-achieving season with a coach that did not inspire the team to play defense. Sixers fire Eddie Jordan after an "unacceptable season," why does BC not do the same now before the draft. Does BC give Triano another chance or is BC is not acting fast because the next head coach is already on staff-Hello Marc Iavaroni. Clean the slate now and go full tilt for the next coach (Van Gundy, Lawrence Frank). If nothing happens in the next month, Raptors will keep Triano or promote Iavaroni.

I posted this earlier,

"They should not make a move on Jay.

I think he’s a good coach, an excellent guy at Xs and Os and deserves another year. No, he’s not fiery and he’s not the greatest quote in the world and sometimes he comes across as unwilling to publicly criticize his players, to the point where he mouths platitudes that aren’t exactly true." - Doug Smith

by the way i don't think Triano will be fired. It usually happens really quickly after the last game of the season is played and there is no indications at all that Traino will be fired. So if nothing happens by the end of the week, chances are nothing will happen.

Simply put, this ownership treats this team as a joke.

They just finished paying Sam Mitchell, they're not going to pay another guy to do nothing.

It became pretty obvious that Jay just doesn't have it as an NBA head coach. Assistant. Yes. Bringing in someone with some cache with the officials would be a good first step seeing how many times we never got the respect of the officials.

But alas, this franchise always fucks up somehow and they'll fuck this up too.

They're still paying Sam Mitchell.

He signed a four year deal.

You're right that if nothing happens soon, its status quo. Here's a little info on Triano from today's Toronto Sun:

"Jay Trianoís time in Toronto may be over.

Triano has survived three coaching purges ó Lenny Wilkens, Kevin OíNeill and Sam Mitchell. Itís obvious Triano has an ally at the board level, but his work this season almost cries for yet another coaching change.

Now that the Raptors are officially done, talk has already begun to percolate that Triano had a tough time communicating with his players. He certainly never got them to play defence and his relationship with Turkoglu has been characterized as tenuous.

What the Raptors need is a strong-minded coach who wonít tolerate any b.s."

Our problem was defense, so we should fire our defense assistant coach, not Jay

I think (as others have suggested in other threads) Jay is the low salary guy that we will hang on to until Mitchell's deal expires.

THEN we can can his ass and get a new coach. I don't think MLSE wants to pay three coaches simultaneously.

If you are paying Triano peanuts and then you hire a new guy, no problem. Not with Big Sam's contract out there though.

if we got Van Gundy i would actually jizz my pants.

We need a real coach, not to hate on Triano, because with the right players im sure he would be ok, hes just not able to impose his will on players, which the raps need. Bring on JVG...

jeff van gundy routinely blasts the Raptors on espn telecasts if they're ever brought up. he's been critical of the team colangelo has assembled here, questioning their dedication on both ends of the floor, heart, hustle, and most importantly, intelligence.
colangelo's ego won't let him hire a guy who thinks he's done a shite job, just as JVG won't even bother wasting his time with such a sad sack of shit.

when is Jay Triano gonna get fired?

considering how they didn't make the playoffs at the end, let's hope the announcement is coming soon.

IMO we shouldlet Triano know he'll be fired, let him coach one game of the season then fire him and replace him with an interm coach. Or fire him and have BC coach the team

triano has one more year for sure, and has an option for another year, I'm assuming Bryan Colangelo wont pick it up, plus the fact that Sam Mitchell will be done

so assuming all those things happpen next year Raptors budget for a coach is 5 million dollars, well thats the most there willing to spend, adding smitch and triano contract together
