Sixers Give Holiday DNP To Preserve Psyche?

Jrue Holiday received a DNP-Coach's Decision in Tuesday night's preseason game against the New York Knicks. He was the only player suited up that didn't get in the game.

How is Jrue supposed to go up against top-caliber guards if Eddie Jordan doesn't even want him playing the Knicks guards?

DK, coaching is not just about X and O's, it's also about managing personalities.

Eddie's been around the NBA as a player and now a coach long enough to know what he's doing and he obviously had a good reason for doing it.

Well, maybe, but I don't see how benching your rookie because the competion was to fierce is helping anything. Sure it might help his confidence, but what else? In my opinion, learning by your mistakes is way better than watching from the bench. Not to mention that Jrue is no slouch. He can likely hold his ground.

Maybe there is something seriously wrong with Jrue's psyche and he's protecting him.

Well is he going to sit him out the entire year then? Because in the regular season every team is going to be playing with high intensity. I was impressed by Jrues play vs us. He should be fine.

A good coach typically needs to be a good psychologist. Different players need to be handled in different ways. Eddie Jordan has been around the block, I'm not going to doubt him for sitting a rookie who has to play one of the toughest positions in basketball. Sometimes you can learn more from the sideline. It would have been nice if the article mentioned whether or not Holiday had a coach sitting with him all game going over various aspects.

Eddie is also old school and believes rookies need to earn time, not just be given time based on how high they were drafted, so that could be another reason. Why he would lie to the media about it though, I don't know.

Jrue was drafted on "potential" - he's likely quite overrated. First three games - ZERO assists, six turnovers.
Shot 45% in college with only 3.7 assists/game and <9 ppg.
Needs to get *significantly* better before getting much playing time in the NBA.
If you want to win, I wouldn't play him much.

As thriller noted, he looked pretty good against us.

He seems like the type of kid who would want to go into MSG and put up 50. He might of been a little to pumped up for a preseason game, and maybe Jordan figured it was best just not to play him rather than have him go into a meaningless exhibition game with lofty expectations.

It wasn't like he would be pit against some all-star calibre guard. Robinson? Duhon? Please. I think the kid needs to get work in, and play in pressure situations - even if it's meaningles games, especially if the Sixers are leaning on him to be a big part of the team this year. There's gotta more to it than what's on the surface.
