Default EC PLAYOFFS; ROUND 1: (2) ORL MAGIC Defeat the (7) CHA BOBCATS 4-0

ORL WON SEASON SERIES 3-1 (1-1 WITH SJAX IN LINEUP)

STARTERS:

ORL

Jameer Nelson
Vince Carter
Matt Barnes
Rashard Lewis
Dwight Howard

CHA

Raymond Felton
Stephen Jackson
Gerald Wallace
Boris Diaw
Theo Ratliff

KEY ROTATION PLAYERS:

ORL
JJ Reddick
Mickael Pietrus
Ryan Anderson/Brandon Bass

CHA

DJ Augustin
Larry Hughes
Tyrus Thomas

Key Matchups:

Jackson vs Carter- Jackson especially will have to have big games on the perimeter for CHA to even stand a chance due to their lack of an interior scorer. Carter will have to soften up the defence from the outside to get Dwights game going on the inside.

Tyrus Thomas vs ORL's 4s- Tyrus is back now and I can see him causing a big problem on the boards if hes right out there for Lewis and either Bass or Anderson. This is one matchup the Magic dont have an answer for if Tyrus plays to his ability.

SVG vs Brown-There will be a ton of adjustments game to game with these 2 great coaches, so it'll be very interesting to see what works and what doesnt and how each coach adjusts.

PREDICTION:

Magic in 5. Brown is a coach who wants to make sure his teams pack the paint and this should work to ORLs advantage bigtime. That and they dont really have a guy who can keep up with Howard, even with 4 centers to go against Dwight, Dwight will still eat them inside and on the boards.

Thrills, nice preview. But what about Tyson Chandler. Is he out for kitties?

I dont really consider him a key rotation player right now because all hes gonna do is foul Howard. He hasnt had his NOH form all season.

Magic in four, this will easily be the least exciting of all the first round match ups.

With Bynum out, Orlando is the most complete team in the playoffs. And Charlotte loses to teams like the Nets and Wizards.

Orlando in 4.

Chandler could show up in this series. In my opinion, he'll at least get a chance to defend Howard for more than a few minutes. If he does well, Brown will probably be smart enough to use him.

Well, if you look at the minutes distribution amongst Charlotte's bigs over the past 20 games, you'll see that some of it doesn't make sense when you look at it on paper. I only watch about every 4th game that Charlotte plays, so I don't know for sure what's going on, but Brown has not been using a consistent rotation. For example, Tyrus Thomas was playing really well when he first showed up and Brown rewarded him with minutes. Tyrus was a solid contributor during his first dozen or so games as a Bobcat. However, over the past 10 or so games, Tyrus has only played 20 minutes once. *shaking head* He's been in Brown's "dog house" for a few weeks now. Maybe that will change. Also, Chandler's minutes have been up and down. A few games ago, he had back to back games of 5 blocks and 30 minutes played. Then, after that, Brown followed up by barely playing him over the next couple of games. Chandler has been terribly inconsistent, but he has shown flashes of the NOH years...but, yeah, only flashes.

Anyways, my point is, Brown's rotation can be unpredictable. Given the potential foul trouble his team will find themselves in, I think Larry might be forced to give all the bigs a decent chance, depending on the scenarios that arise. I think Tyrus AND Chandler could be wild cards. If they play to their potential, things could be interesting. I won't hold my breath, though.

To be clear, I agree with your points about Tyrus being a sort of "x factor", if he gets serious minutes. Again, what I'm not sure about is how the minutes are going to get dished out by Brown.

Well, in my opinion, Orlando, Cleveland and Dallas are all neck and neck in the "complete" category. You can throw the Lakers in the mix if they are healthy. All of those teams can throw many different looks at the opposition if they choose to. And, so long as they are healthy and not in foul trouble, they can adjust to pretty much any lineup the opposition throws at them. All of those teams can go "small" or "big."

And, yes, Charlotte does lose to teams like the Nets and Wizards. That's largely because they suck on the road. I believe the Nets got their first home victory against the Cats. On the flip side, though, the Cats are quite strong at home and have a tendency to "play up" to their competition. They have played Cleveland and the Lakers really tough. Also, a few of the Cats' veterans have some solid playoff experience. To be clear, I think Orlando will win. I just don't think it will be a total cake walk. I could be wrong, though.
