Default EC PLAYOFFS RD 1 : (4)BOS CELTICS vs (5)ATL HAWKS

STARTERS:

BOS CELTICS

Rajon Rondo
Avery Bradley
Paul Pierce
Brandon Bass
Kevin Garnett

ATL

Jeff Teague
Kirk Hinrich
Joe Johnson
Josh Smith
Zaza Pachulia

KEY ROTATION PLAYERS:

BOS

Ray Allen
Mickael Pietrus
Greg Stiemsma

ATL

Jannero Pargo
Willie Green
Tracy McGrady
Marvin Williams
Ivan Johnson

Key Matchups:

Rajon Rondo vs Teague/Hinrich- ATL has some pretty good defenders at the PG position, but slowing down Rondo is all about the help D since they run so many pick and rolls. ATLs defence needs to be tight on the perimeter, not helping too much off of Pierce/Bradley/Allen or they're going to get smacked. ATL is best off putting Smith on KG and trying to make Rondo/KG score all of the points.

Joe Johnson vs Avery Bradley- I expect this to be the matchup in the latter part of the game at least because Bradley is such a good defender, but Joe Johnson knows how to use his size so it'll be interesting to see what BOS does against him since Johnson has a history of torching them in the playoffs. I wouldnt want to leave Pierce on him for long stretches because Johnson can score against Pierce I think easier than Bradley, and because Pierce needs to save his energy for offence.

The biggest key to the series, as with all ATL series, is which ATL team shows up? The lazy one who gives up when they are down by a few points in the 2nd half that shows no heart and plays like they hate each other, or the fired up, frantic ATL team that plays pretty good defence and shares the ball?

If the latter shows up, I expect a 7 game series, but I dont have that much faith in the Hawks.

PREDICTION:

BOS in 6. BOS is rolling coming in to the playoffs, and I think their starting lineup will prove to be too much to handle for the Hawks. I just dont see the Hawks keeping up the necessary level of play they need to play at(and can play at as stated).

I think it should be a fun series.

With a more mature (at least on the court) Josh Smith they should be able to hang around in this series. It'd be nice if Horford was good to go but apparently they'll only let him play limited minutes.

Boston in 6, although I don't know if i'd be that surprised if it went to 7.

Boston in 5, I just don't see Atlanta winning more then one game here. This will be Boston's last series win with the current roster.

Boston in five as they make their last run to the conference finals.

Can't see Atlanta taking it without Horford. I'll give them the benefit of saying it'll be in 6, but that's as far as I'll go.

gotta gree with Grizz here... if Horford was around, this would be a competitive series. he'd give them good size and bang in the paint, and he'd be able to body garnett and keep him off the offensive boards.
without him, they have no quality big man and no shot.

Bost in 5

despite joe johnson playing out of his mind in the last few games, the celtics can answer against him with paul pierce if it comes down to a shootout. however once the game starts to become more slow paced and the offence is run through the big men, the celtics frontcourt is clearly much more deeper (as everyone stated) than the thin inexperienced hawks squad. pachulia and ivan johnson might put up a fight in banging down low but garnett, bass and stiesma can hold their ground against them.

Not sure if it has been mentioned yet, but ATL will (most likely) have homecourt (better record) in this series even though they are a lower seed.

I'll say BOS in 6

I'm gambling on it going 7 simply due to the age of boston.

Claudius, can you please change the title to have ATL as the 4 and BOS as the 5?

Boston is 4th seed though. Atlanta has HCA because of a better overall record.

Boston needs to remember that they have to get past Atlanta before they can beat a Rose-less Bulls squad.

Josh Smith can be such a tool sometimes. He is getting whatever he wants when he goes to the hoop, but he decides to jack a 3 pointer instead?

Wow Rondo. Boston is in big big trouble.

This Eastern Conference went from looking like it was going to have a really entertaining pair of matchups in the 2nd rd to a really boring couple of series.
