Also selected to the All-Defensive First Team are forward LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers (47 points), New Orleans Hornets guard Chris Paul (36 points) and Boston Celtics forward Kevin Garnett (35 points).

Howard led the league in rebounds (13.8 ppg) and blocks (2.9 bpg), becoming only the fifth player to lead the league in both categories in the same season (Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, L.A. Lakers, 1975-76; Bill Walton, Portland 1976-77; Hakeem Olajuwon, Houston, 1989-90; Ben Wallace, Detroit, 2001-02). Howard and the Magic held opponents under 100 points 54 times this season -- compiling a 43-11 record in those games.

The NBA All-Defensive Second Team consists of center Tim Duncan of the San Antonio Spurs, guards Dwyane Wade of the Miami Heat and Rajon Rondo of the Boston Celtics, and forwards Shane Battier and Ron Artest of the Houston Rockets. Duncan has been selected to the NBA All-Defensive team 12 consecutive seasons.

The voting panel consisted of the NBA’s 30 head coaches, who were asked to select NBA All-Defensive First and Second Teams by position. Coaches were not permitted to vote for players from their own team. Two points were awarded for a First Team vote and one point was awarded for a Second Team vote.

People talk about defensive player of the year being more about statistics, but the all-defensive team is more about straight-up good defense. I'd say they picked both teams pretty well spot-on.

i can live with rondo being on the second team, but williams and billups destroy paul in every aspect of defence away from playing the lanes.

I said it in another thread, ill say it again.... look at this list...

Howard led the league in rebounds (13.8 ppg) and blocks (2.9 bpg), becoming only the fifth player to lead the league in both categories in the same season (Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, L.A. Lakers, 1975-76; Bill Walton, Portland 1976-77; Hakeem Olajuwon, Houston, 1989-90; Ben Wallace, Detroit, 2001-02).

if you dont think he should be DPOY, that's crazy, lebron is 2nd to me, altho i like him more Im thinking all the guys on that list won DPOY that year?? I didnt even look it up tho

and if u buy this, he costs his team more going for those blocks, bs, some ppl are saying, all i can say is wow, imagine them without D12, do u think they are as good defensively. Or, once again, look at that list, those are all time greats (with the exception if big ben), those are 50 greatest type guys, and they only did it once each?? Appreciate the kid understand he is on pace to be one of the best ever, and you HAVE to give DPOY if a guy does things like these.... Battier.... come on lol

howard is a swatter

a true blocker blocks for possession

that's what separates the good from the DPOY

lol at Kobe being on the first team. Guy doesn't even guard the opponents' best perimeter player.
