Lakers Dwight Howard continues to whine

This guy is quickly become the biggest baby and coach killer in the league.

Quote:
Dwight Howard expressed to Mitch Kupchak during his exit interview that he was frustrated by how Mike D'Antoni used him during his first season with the Los Angeles Lakers, according to sources.

Howard also felt marginalized by D'Antoni, feeling he looked to Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash for leadership and suggestions.

D'Antoni elected not to retain Chuck Person on his coaching staff, who is a confidant of Howard. Furthermore, Steve Clifford has become a head coaching candidate for several NBA vacancies. Clifford was with Howard for five seasons with the Orlando Magic.

One source described the potential departure of Clifford, coupled with the loss of Person as "removing the buffers," between Howard and D'Antoni, "which is a bad thing."

Howard has been careful not to make public comments after what happened last season with Stan Van Gundy, but the situation with D'Antoni doesn't appear to be irreparable.

"It's not a, 'It's me or Mike,' situation for Dwight," said a source.

Howard is a free agent and can sign a five-year, $118 million contract with the Lakers, or up to a four-year, $87.6 million deal with a rival team that has cap space.

hey, Dwight has a point. Dantoni absolutely sucks for D12 and his game - that much Pringles has shown to the entire world. From what I've read, Dwight has gone out of his way to not create any issues - I'll leave that for the media. I would expect him to move on to Houston. What a great situation

So choices are:

4 years for 21.875 million - let's say he signs in Houston where he gets to play with up and coming super star Harden and some really good players in Lin, Parsons and now Beverley.

or

5 years for 23.6 million - say he stays in Los Angeles and he gets to play with Kobe whose coming off a ruptured achilles (and who really is a bitch), a shell of a player named MWP, an aged and broken down pg and Gasol whom he's not the most compatible with.

Both places he makes millions in endorsements and in Houston he can sign an extension sooner. And also Houston is in Texas - no state tax and that's important imo.

Dwight's an idiot with no heart. He went through two coaches in LA. He'll fail in Houston. McHale deserves better.

What the hell....Stan Van Gundy burnt his welcome out first in Miami then in Orlando. D12 didn't even play for Brown (or minimally but Kobe had his hand in Brown's termination) and Pringles had to be one of the worst selections of a coach for that team and it's skillset.

Media and their gutless un named sources will drive this train off a cliff again calling this Dwightmare part deux - when IMO he doesn't deserve it this time.

I think Mchale would bring the best out in D12 and I think D12 would defer to a basketball hall of famer.

Pretty sure everyone in LA is hoping that Dwight does 'coach kill' D'antoni... Whether he's staying or leaving.

This sounds like him making his out of LA and signing in Houston. The truth I would rather play with harden and parsens the Kobe. If I was Howard the logical choice is Houston over la from a basketball perspective if it comes to money and market then la wins

L.A should have signed Phil Jackson, I don't know what they were thinking, I think they listened to Kobe and Nash a little too much.

If its money, not a lot of difference, might be no difference since Texas has no state tax. Extra year, meh, Howard can make that year back. IMO, if he wants to win, go to Houston - though honestly I think Gasol is the better fit there.

Dwight doesn't seem like the beast he was in Orlando, maybe because of injuries.

Given his back situation, it might be risky for him to assume that he'll be healthy enough to sign a lucrative deal in 2017 that makes up the missed year on the deal he signs this summer.

However, he's in a great position to take that risk, because this year he surpassed $100 million in career earnings. The 4 year deal would put him over $180 mill. Dwight has a financial situation very few in the league enjoy. He's not your typical free agent.

I'm still going to guess that the Lakers are most likely to sign him, even if only by a thin margin.

It's certainly close but for some reason I think his desire to play on a 'team' is extremely enticing and he won't get that for a few years in LA. Houston gives you youth, speed, a superstar, and a great balanced team with a great coach in Mchale. The Lakers you have aged stars, a super star with a blown achilles at the end of his career (and is a known douche to his team mates and everyone), little depth and a coach that is incompatible with Howard. Salaries are probably tipped in Houston's favor considering tax, and as for endorsements....meh, if you're good they will come; Yao did great there as did Stevie and T-Mac. Though I will give LA this, there will be more endorsements after his career is over in LA. As you noted, Howard has earned and will earn an incredible amount of money - he'll be ok

The glitz of LaLa Land with a team in a very ugly spot or Houston, not as glitzy but has a real chance of being an immediate contender with players that are hungry.

Guess we'll see what's important to Howard.

For the sake of his career Houston is the better fit. Harden's a young superstar in the making and they have more of a "team" feel than LA does. I sense were about to witness another Van Exel/Eddie Jones era for the Lakers. Kupchak's days are numbered.

Maybe Jeanie is maneuvering to bring Jackson in to replace Cupcake.
