Tim Duncan seems to use more than 10 seconds to shoot his free throws.

Apparently he had been warned prior:

Quote:
Dwight Howard was assessed a rare delay of game violation because he took longer than 10 seconds to shoot a free throw against the Celtics on Saturday afternoon.

The NBA had warned the center about his deliberate pace at the free throw line previously.

Howard was called for the violation as he lined up to attempt his second of two free throws with 6:49 remaining in the second quarter.

He was then assessed a technical foul after he rolled the ball toward the baseline in what was viewed as a protest of the call.

"I can see if I was shooting 98 percent from the line," Howard said. "But I'm not. It's not stopping the game flow. It's a free throw. So the clock is stopped, period. I'm going to continue to do it."

Howard is shooting 55.6% from the foul line this season.

Noo... he took like 9 seconds he gets the ball at :31 and ends up taking the freethrow before :41. Less then 10 seconds, Dwight's is like 20 seconds :S

the difference was that with Duncan, you can see that around 8 seconds in that he's about to shoot.
with D12 the guy isnt even beginning his shooting motion, or even bringing the ball up to get ready, he's just starring at the ground.....
fact is, he should just probably chuck it as soon as he gets it, that may actually help him hit his free throws better.

howard acted like a spoiled brat in this. you've been repeatedly warned by the league man, smarten up. i'd hate to see how games would slow down if everyone wanted to take as much time as the felt like to make a ft. and to complain that it would be different if he was a good shooter? ffs, dwight. man child is right.

Ya because I feel like waiting an extra half hour during the game so he can take a minute or longer per FT...

If there was no time limit.... Players at the line would purposely take as much time as they wanted (since theres no limit or rule) and stop the flow...

You know how coaches take a 20 second time out to stop the flow of the game since the oposing team is on a run? Same thing can be said for this..

it actually does effect the game flow. i hate it when players take FOREVER to even gather the ball and take the free throw. ESPECIALLY when they miss it. seriously slows down the pace of the game. sometimes it's not a bad thing where both teams are out of control they need a breather
the only time they should be taking this long is during crunch time

Karl Malone took forever, and everyone knew he could have been called. But he was also Karl Malone, and at least he made good use of the time. Waiting ten or twenty seconds for another miss is just unnecessary.

Oh yah, the referee counted till 12 before he blew the whistle on Howard.

We used to count when Karl Malone would shoot his throws in Portland. He'd let that ball go right when everybody yelled "10!"

I think it would be a good idea for the ACC to start counting to 10 for people who take a long time at the line. This might cause them to put up their shot quickly, and throwing them off. From personal basketball experience, if you rush a free throw, you're likely to leave it short.

I think the ACC should try tricking the opposition more. I remember a few weeks ago, the crowd were chanting "3...2...1" when the shot clock was actually at 8 or 9.

Howard was taking waaaay too long. For all we know he could have been trying to buy some rest at the line.
