Default Draft rumors: Baron Davis, Ricky Rubio and more

NBA Draft Rumor: Grizzlies Want Thabeet Over Rubio

Though there are rumors that the Clippers will try to move Baron Davis in the coming weeks in order to take Ricky Rubio with the first pick, odds are that theyíll start training camp with Davis and Blake Griffin on the roster. That leaves Rubio to the Grizzlies at No. 2. But Memphis owner Michael Heisley is reportedly pushing against taking the Spanish PG second.

This could completely alter the landscape of the draft - it already has far-reaching implications. Even though thereís this guy named Marc Gasol playing center for the Grizz right now, Heisley wants Hasheem Thabeet second. Heisley could very well be saying so because of rumblings that Rubio is refusing to play in Memphis. Itís like when you ask a girl out, she says no, and you respond by saying you like her ugly roommate more anyway.

ESPNís Chad Ford is reporting that the Wizards would like to seize that opportunity to jump up to the No. 3 spot to get Rubio.

Two league sources said the Wizards and Thunder already had discussions about a swap of the No. 3 pick for the No. 5 pick and the Wizardsí 2008 first-rounder, JaVale McGee.

The Thunder would then opt for James Harden at No. 5. Though AP might be pretty heated if that means fewer minutes for his boy Thabo Sefalosha, Harden would offer some helpful offensive firepower for OKC.

I can actually see Rubio dropping out of the top 5-6 as teams might be afraid he will not be willing to play in those cities?

Clippers
Memphis
OKC
Sac
Washington
Minnesota

Other then maybe Sac/LA (Both teams are a mess) not many places he seemingly would like to play?? Is that possible? I'm probably reaching here, this reputation plus the buyout issue could turn teams off, no?

They should put Thabeet at center and play Marc Gasol at PF since Gasol has some good post offensive post moves. That would be a pretty dominate front court.

I would say he is probably going to Memphis.

Whereas Gasol is a capable starter right now, Thabeet has a long ways to go before he can compete at the NBA level, in my opinion. Don't be tricked into thinking his height will make up for all his other deficiencies.

7'2 center who played with college boys while Gasol is a NBA veteran now with international experience.

but once those two pair up, that would be a front court as tough as par with Shaq and Stoudemire in time***

That's a pretty heavy call.

i don't know if it would be better frontcourt overall, but it would definitely be a stronger defensive frountcourt.......

Not even close.

wow.

just wow.
Shaq was burning guys for 30 and 15 when they were going to him as option A.

He alone is still the Top center in the league.

I would actually take Shaq over Dwight. Dwight isn't a reliable scorer in the post, Shaq is. Shaq is also one of the best passing big men in the game, and Dwight just isn't.

highly unlikely. This draft isn't filled with too much talent so i would be shocked to see Rubio drafted any further then 5th overall.
