Default Draft Profile: Jared Sullinger

Born: March 4, 1992
From: Columbus, Ohio
University: Ohio State

Height: 6'9"
Weight: 280 lbs
Position: Power Forward

Quote:
Arguably the most impressive player seen from a production standpoint over the course of the week, Jared Sullinger easily justified his lofty recruiting rankings and even exceeded them to a certain extent.

Sullinger is a prospect we’ve seen numerous times at this point and have written about at great length, but its impressive to see the strides he continues to make with his overall game, particularly on the perimeter. His jump-shot looks absolutely terrific, knocking down a number of 3-pointer in the practices and in the actual game, and showing off far better ball-handling skills than we’ve seen from him in the past. He took his man off the dribble with both his left and right hand, finishing impressively around the rim with either hand and displaying far more agility and dexterity than we’ve seen from him in the past. His body looks better and better every time we see him, and the fact that he continues to make strides with his skill level is a very encouraging sign.

Sullinger might not have the best long-term potential amongst the big men in this class, but his intangibles appear to be phenomenal and he’s clearly going to be an extremely productive player at the collegiate level. Scouts will continue to monitor his progress closely, but there’s already quite a bit to like about Sullinger based on what he’s shown over the past few years.

January, 2010: Jared is one of the 2 best players in the country. He has been a winner at every level during his high school career. He won 3 national AAU championships and is trying to lead his team to a second state championship in Ohio. He is THE best rebounder in the 2010 class. He has great hands and an attitude that tries to grab every rebound. His strength and big body are tough to box out and keep off the boards. He is a good scorer on the block and is working to improve his ability to score over his left shoulder. Sully has an excellent touch and is a solid face up shooter with range to 18 feet. Defensively he is good at clogging the lane and has a great basketball IQ that allows him to understand defensive concepts and positioning. It does not take much to imagine Jared being one of Ohio State's best players next year as a freshman.
Jared Sullinger 2010 Basketball Recruiting Profile - ESPN

Quote:
Strengths: Sullinger has decent size for a post player measuring 6’9” (in shoes) with a 6’11.5” wingspan … He is a bruising throwback post player that uses his 262 pound body to create angles for his shot and to clear space on the boards … Very physical player that uses his body to wear down opposing big men...The Ohio State commit is also very skilled with a repertoire of advanced post moves for a high school player…Comfortable finishing around the rim with either hand … Has excellent hands and footwork and shows very good touch around the basket … Solid rebounder, he attacks the glass at both ends of the floor and creates offensive opportunities off of putbacks…Shows decent form and touch on the 12-18 footer … Passes well out of the post … He’s a winner, leading his Columbus Northland squad to an Ohio Divison 1 state championship and his All-Ohio Red AAU squad to three consecutive National Championships …

Yes! A Buckeye! Jared Sullinger is a beast. He became the first Buckeye freshman to record a double-double since like late 1970 in their first game.

He can do it all. Score, Rebound, Good passing for a big guy, down low game, shoots well(80%+ FT% in HS. 7/8 in his first college game).

Also that photo is of his brother JJ Sullinger that played 2 years @ OSU(and was #0 also).

How is his defence? Is his game too perimeter oriented?

Defense still needs work. He is a down low post guy. He doesn't shoot many jumpers at all. He rather back you down and score/dunk on you but if he has to he has a nice jumper.

Also a very good passer for a big man.

The comparison I saw a lot for Sullinger is Kevin Love but a better scorer down low.

hes good. but everyone is forgetting what position we need desperatly. CENTRE. if we can push Bargs back to pf he will be deadly. we already have davis who. is good yet too short to play a dominenent role as a centre. either draft a pg to replace jose or get a centre. although i still want jose on this team. if only there was someway to decrease his salary in the middle of his contract

Gotta take the best player...If Sullinger is on the board and he's the best talent Raps need to pick him regardless of his position in comparison to bargnani

Jared Sullinger is a BEAST!!!!

Also talking about Buckeye players I hope Raptors target David Lighty in the 2nd round. He is a senior at Ohio state. A lot of people call him one of the best defensive player in CBB. He is also becoming a better shooter/scorer

Jared Sullinger was clutch tonight! Tie game with 50seconds left he got a 3point play(and 1). Other team went down and did the same thing. Then with 12seconds left he answer again with another 3point play! Amazing. Kept the Buckeyes undefeated streak alive at 18-0 and they should be the #1 team in the nation when the new polls come out on Monday! YES!

Ohio State highlights so far this season Jared Sullinger

I was listening to the post game on the FAN last night.

JYD was on air, and one caller made a reference to Irving being the #1 pick. Williams repeated "no, no, no" and declared Sullinger to be his #1 pick. JYD complemented him for being a great competitor and rebounder, which his high praise.

He has him down perfectly. Sullinger loves the game of basketball as he comes from a basketball family. They say it best on TV everybody knows the name Sullinger in Columbus. He has played this game since a little tiny boy.

Here is a perfectly article to show you the relationship Sullinger had with BB at a young age

Quote:
With the Brothers Sullinger down by one basket in a win-by-two setting, J.J. beat his man off the dribble, drew the attention of the other defender and whizzed a pass to his youngest brother for what should have been an easy layup. Except Jared dropped the pass.

The ball rolled out of bounds, and the other team scored on the next possession to win. J.J. and Jared walked home quietly, but they weren’t done playing.

J.J. said he spent the next hour standing “no more than five feet” from Jared, throwing him chest passes, making him catch and secure each one. He’d mix in the occasional bounce pass or behind-the-backer, but he kept firing them. Ten or 15 of them, J.J. remembers, “busted Jared in the face.”

He didn’t cry. Even when J.J. had essentially passed his left shoulder numb, Little Brother wanted to keep going.

Jared Sullinger was 5 years old.

“Maybe 6, but probably only 5,” J.J. said. “He was young, but even then basketball was never just a game. It was always serious business.”
Rebounding he is awesome at. On the video I above Knight showed that. He wants every since basketball that comes off the rim more than anybody and gets in great position and boxes out.

With Jared you're getting a player that has GREAT BB IQ(Maybe the best on the court most of the time), Rebounder, and Down low Post player.
