A source close to IBN and inside the Philadelphia 76ers organization has relayed the info that Doug Collins will part ways with the Sixers after this season. The decision has been agreed upon mutually by Collins and upper management. Doug is reportedly at odds with the GM over the Andrew Bynum situation and let my source know it, quoting Collins, "Bynum is a quitter and never showed urgency to come back from his (knee) injury."

Why not just leave now? This next 6 weeks can't be healthy for this team.

He's a really good coach, the only thing that sixers had going for them aside Holiday. Should be our top target (because he is realisticly the best we can get) when Casey is fired.

You don't do favors for other teams. You knew Bynum had serious knee issues, but you trade your best player for him anyway. Look how much better the Nuggets are. You can't say the Lakers have improved, but the Lakers didn't get totally jackholed like Philly. At least Dwight Howard gives you a big body out there.

God I would love Collins here. Great teacher of young players, good X's and O's guy and commands respect.

We already have Ed Stefanski (the 76ers former GM) as Colangelo's advisor.

Perhaps they are keeping an eye on the situation?

The Philadlephia 76ers privately wish that Doug Collins decides not to return as coach for the final year of his contract next season, according to multiple league sources.

The 76ers have no plans to extend Collins' contract.

Due to his desire to win, Collins has been demanding with people above him in the 76ers' organization and players on the roster. Some members of the organization prefer a coach who is more pliable in his dealings with management and players.

Collins, who will turn 62 this summer, would have to leave $4.5 million on the table if he decided to quit.

"I think he's gone at the end of the year. He'll be moving on," said one NBA source with intimate knowledge of the situation. "He'll decide to leave, and they won't be upset about it. They would like to see it work out that he decides to move on."

After a run to the second round in last year's playoffs, the 76ers have slipped badly this season, currently ninth in the Eastern Conference and 16 games under .500

They'd have to pay off the rest of his contract if they did that. Also, he's one of those coaches you don't fire without a real good reason.

Really doubt we are going to fire Casey, Is there a way of demoting coach? Hire Collins as the head coach and demote Casey to assistant!

funny how many of you are advocating for collins...

Since the Sixers are not close to contending at this point, his inefficient offense, funky rotations, and lack of creative play-calling don't matter as much as his penchant for affecting personal decisions.
sounds a lot like the guy we currently have:jack:

Collins has been heard on many occasions saying "this never would have happened when I was with Michael, I would be way better with Michael, I know MICHAEL, MICHAEL AND I ARE BEST FRIENDS... MICHAEL.....MICHAEL.....MICHAEL!!!!!!"

Give the guy a bit of a break, they traded three players, including their best and some bright young prospects, for a guy that didn't play for them.

ya, I question the trade, I think it was NBA funny business. How does EVERYONE miss those injuries in thorough tests???

How come all these coaches no so little. When is a GM going to step up and finally higher an experienced blogger as head coach.

my point was that a few people here are saying that he's a good x's and o's coach and all that jazz probably based off of the 4 games they played the raptors. however, here's a beat writer who probably watched 60+ games if not all 82 and is pointing out the same flaws as our current head coach. not to discredit collins' as a coach, because i really do think he is solid but is he really an upgrade over casey if he'll be put in a similar situation here in toronto?

and carp i get your argument but again, the exact same argument could be made for casey. lowry trade, fields signing, Bargs injury etc...
