Clippers Doc Rivers may not be back with the Clippers next season

Doc Rivers Not Sure If He'll Coach LA Clippers Next Year Amid Controversy | Bleacher Report

Quote:
In the wake of Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling’s alleged racist comments, ample uncertainty hangs over the organization. Included in that narrative is head coach Doc Rivers, who may opt not to return next season.

When asked whether he would be back to L.A.’s sidelines in 2014-15 if Sterling was still the owner, Rivers said, “Don’t know yet. And I’m just (going) to leave it at that,” per ESPN’s Marc Stein.

The deplorable comments have weighed heavily on everyone from other NBA owners, to coaches, to players, to fans, but Rivers is directly involved in the controversy. The former Boston Celtics head coach has also been personally victimized by hatred and bigotry in his past, per The Detroit News’ Vincent Goodwill:

Vincent Goodwill @vgoodwill
People forget Doc had his house burned down by a racist arsonist. It's tough to block stuff out. Tough to go back "home" to LA

Masai keep Casey as Assistant and hire Doc as a head coach

I don't blame Rivers if he leaves. There shouldn't be any player or coach in the league willing to work for Sterling. He is simply a piece of shit

I already have a lot of respect for Doc and if he doesn't come back because of Sterling, my respect will go X100 for him. Same with any player on that team.

Again, it was well known that Donald Sterling was a racist prior to this recent event. If he felt so strongly against it, why did he sign a contract with the Clippers to begin with?

Even if we beat the fucking Heat this year I'd drop Casey for Doc no questions asked. I don't think it's feasible to consider moving Casey over to assistant coach though. Things just don't work that way in regards to power hierarchies; you can't have two head coaches.

My thoughts exactly. One of the major reasons for why America is in decline is, I think, this preoccupation with being legalistic rather than following the spirit of the law or a more broad moral/ethical framework. It seems like until it could be proven beyond a doubt in court (or the court of public opinion, anyway), no one's willing to throw their money from Sterling away (or the chance at more) regardless of the 30 years of off-the-record remarks, first- and second-hand stories, and that Baylor effing sued him for discrimination.

In America, money = good, so it seems to take a lot of intangible negatives have to pile up before people are willing to risk losing money by fighting for what's right. For that matter, maybe it isn't intangible negatives at all and that only when people fear that they will lose more money by associating with him, that they will jump ship. That must be the case since the Clippers still have sponsors, period.

I am waiting for someone to make an actual stand. Talk is cheap. Would have meant a lot if the players refused to play and threw a game. YadaYada the fans whatever. Someone has to be willing to sacrifice some $$ to show the NBA they are serious.

Because right now it is "Oh boy is he racist, but I want his cash so I will put up with it"

Such a tough call when you've fought all season to be in this position.

Nine, not all; today, not the day after the recording became publicly available.

This is the first busines day since the story broke i believe...so the timing makes sense

9 major sponsors is massive money...more will fall in line
I believe Yokohama is presently "assessing" the situation and "weighing" their options

My bad; I swear it felt like we've been hearing about this for at least a week.

It does seem longer

And it looks like Yokohama is the 10th sponsor to officially cut ties to Sterling
