They will make it, as for how much damage they'll do that's a whole other story.

Without a doubt, and they'll make it to the West Finals at the very least

BUMP

How do people feel now? They were discussing this on PTI today. Kornheizer and Wilbon did not seem optimistic, for obvious reasons.

FYI, for those of you who don't know, the Lakers don't even have a draft pick if they miss the playoffs. After the Rudy to Phoenix rumours, I started looking at Phoenix's pick situation and noticed the lack of protection on the Lakers 2013 pick. When L.A. did the sign and trade for Nash, they sent 2 picks to Phoenix, but didn't put any lotto protections on the 2013 pick.

So, like us, the Lakers will probably be losing a 2013 lotto for their new PG.

I don't feel any different. Let's see...I thought they were heading into a couple months of a really tough schedule...yep that seems to be sucking the life out of them in a hurry.

Forget that though. What did I think last September? They are old and slow with one dumbass coming off a major surgery in there to make up for that, which just doesn't add up. They will be torn to shreds in transition which just doesn't make them that scary. They don't have much depth in critical positions. And they have no clear path to figuring out how four guys that have played in drastically different situations are going to mesh. Nash has excelled alongside players that don't need a consistent number of touches and in 3 seconds or less where there are enough touches for the ball boy to get his. Kobe likes to have the ball in his hands whenever he isn't trying to make a point of showing that he doesn't need the ball in his hands. Dwight is a turnover machine without enough heart to dominate like he should, and his regular role of passing out of doubles is what Gasol does, but without the turnovers. Now Gasol is stuck on the perimeter where he gets to pass to Dwight and fondly remember when he was on the receiving end of those passes. Metta would scare me a little if he was on an effective team, but he's not on an effective team, he's alongside a group of players trying to reinvent everything they've done before while trying to forget that their bodies might not hold up so well. Not a great situation. Not a shock that it hasn't worked out. It just isn't. Firing Brown and then hiring D'Antoni just clinches it. Magical thinking worked for Steve Jobs. Maybe these guys should be making electronic devices.

all it takes is another injury to Nash and they won't be even close to compete for 8th spot
this team needs bench ,there starting guys are too old and can't play huge minutes all season long. I'm betting on them not making the playoffs

I think a lot of teams are enjoying beating the Lakers. We should treat the game like it's game 7 of the NBA finals and bury them. It would be like a knock-out blow if we did.

Over the last 5 years it's taken an average of about 48 wins to make the playoffs in the West (with last year adjusted for 66 games obviously). The Lakers would need to go 33-14 from here on out to reach 48 wins.

Not a chance. The only real intrigue now is if Dwight Howard will stay with the team or leave.

Yes, it would be the highlight of this Raptor's season if it happened

Well they aren't going to go 33-14 with Pringles playing the starters 40+ minutes a night.

It would garner us some publicity as well. Caldy and DD need to up their street cred.
