Detroit targeting Pietrus,Posey.

The Detroit Pistons are targeting James Posey and Mickael Pietrus through free agency this month. They are looking for someone to play behind Prince.

They both had great numbers and their salaries are only about $0.1 million difference from one another.

Personally, i think Posey would be the better fit, his numbers were just a little better and he may go for cheaper than Pietrus would.

That and Posey is 10x the player Pietrus is. Pietrus takes bad shots and disappears in games way too often. Posey ALWAYS does the little things in every game to win, takes good shots, and plays very good defence all the time and knows where to be on rotations. Its not a coincidence hes been a big part of 2 championship teams. Pietrus is very unproven to this point and has been a disappointment.

I cant see Posey going to DET though.

Detroit is really weird, you never know what they will do. For as long as I could remember Billups was always on the rumour mill. But Joe Dumars is a great GM, Rodney Stuckey justifies that. I don't see them trading Chauncey, maybe Sheed (Exp. Contract).

Apparently James Jones is also on the radar for the Pistons. They are looking for someone to back-up Prince and feel Jones is a good fit.

Jones is definately a solid pick. I've liked his game since Indy. He IS a lot like Posey, but just not as tenacious a help defender yet. Individually hes just as good, and he's a better set shooter.

Major 07-05-2008 07:45 PM

I like him too and honestly, out of the two, i'd pick Jones. He's had better years than Posey and he's also 4 yrs younger as well. Both are great picks, but Jones is still in his prime where Posey will be 32 next season. Not only that but Jones' salary was about $300 000 less than Posey's.

Ball Don't Lie 07-05-2008 08:53 PM

Well I wouldnt say hes had better years because its not really close in that regard since Jones hasnt played a prime role on a championship team yet, but in terms of what they do for a team its pretty much the same, Posey just has him with experience, toughness and grit right now, something Jones may never have.

what team did jones play on again, i forgot?

Indy then PHX then POR

He was top 5 in 3PT FG% too last year I think, top 2 for a lot of the year.

Looks like Pistons are after Maggette as well.

What was said in the article is why i would have liked him here. He gets to the line (80% FTFG) and is nearly 40% from three and gives you 20-22PPG.And i also thought that if we surrounded him with a good team he would thrive. Can you imagine O'Neal/Bosh/Maggette as our top three scorers. Calderon would average 12 assists a game.

only if jeff only if
