Quote:

Chicago Bulls guard Derrick Rose has been named the NBA's Rookie of the Year, the Chicago Tribune reported Wednesday.

The team is holding a news conference at 3 p.m. ET, at which it's expected the point guard officially will receive the award.

Rose averaged 16.8 points per game, second to the Memphis Grizzlies' O.J. Mayo among rookies. Rose led all rookies in assists with 6.3 per game and in minutes played with 37 per game.

Well deserved, and that game against Boston probably sealed the deal. Do they vote before the playoff start?

Acie 04-22-2009 11:35 AM

Yeah, before the playoffs, but despite a couple of games here and there where he struggled, he was pretty good all year long.

Belsius 04-22-2009 11:37 AM

Calde did a pretty good job on him both games. ;)

INSIDER 04-22-2009 11:40 AM

no surprise here.
out of the rookie class, not only was he the best of the bunch, but he also has the highest ceiling in terms of potential as well.
the bulls have the PG locked up for years.

I thought Westbrook, Lopez, and Love played better, but Rose's team is in the playoffs so I guess I'm ok with him getting it

Westbrook and Love didnt start getting comfortable until the last 2 or 3 months of the season.
for Love, it wasnt until Al Jefferson got injured did he step up.
Westbrook was an animal for the last month or so, but it was too little too late.
Lopez probably should have gotten more respect, but NJ is such a depressing team - no one cares.

Rose was thrown into the fire from day one and had a great year. he actually lead his team to the playoffs IMO.

zachus 04-22-2009 12:23 PM

Had Russell Westbrook averaged 15 / 5 / 5 the whole year, the story might be different. Rose did his thing the whole year.

its_asdf 04-22-2009 01:30 PM

Why did I know that when Westbrook was mentioned that Zachus22 would come flying in already on his knees ready to slurp?:suspicious:

'trane 04-22-2009 01:32 PM

what kind of comment is that asdf?

Ball Don't Lie 04-22-2009 02:04 PM

Lopez was the only one that should have been in the discussion vs Rose. Lopez was solid all year until the end where he was very very good. Westbrook was allowed to freelance on a really bad team and he shot a really low percentage and didnt show much PG skills until the end of the year.

Love only played real good once Jefferson went out, and again on a really bad team. You put Rose in either of those situations hes putting up 20 and 8 instead of his 16 and 6.

The difference between the rookies is Rose WON the Bulls a ton of games this year especially in the 4th qtr. Hes a gamebreaker and he fully deserved this award. He helped his team get into the playoffs and he was the most consistant rookie all year.

Claudius 04-22-2009 02:07 PM

Why no mention of Eric Gordon?

Ball Don't Lie 04-22-2009 02:20 PM

Because Gordon only really broke out 3 months in, and he had good games in 30 pt blowouts so I think you cant really judge how good he is yet or what kind of player hes going to turn out to be. We still dont know if hes good enough defensively to start at SG at his height, or if he can score his way to continuing to being a starter a la Ben Gordon. Can he be a primary ballhandler? I dont think any of those questions have been answered nor will they with the team hes on for another year or two.

Gurk 04-22-2009 05:20 PM

NO doubt once again. It came down him and Lopez and I knew it was Rose who was going to prevail

jeffb 04-22-2009 05:41 PM

Gurk 04-22-2009 05:48 PM

Damn right jeff. I knew that from time. I could've posted it here before but I was like, "people will know my secret," but you found out
