Wait, I figured it out. Favors gets a monster contract to convince everyone that he was a good trade for Deron Williams. Jazz fans are easily succumbed to deceit.

Reports are that Gordon Hayward will also receive an extension, possibly even richer than Favors' deal...wtf?

Hayward is a good player and will likely get overpaid next summer. It makes sense to extend him. I'm not sure what's his market salary. I guess if he gets DeRozan's salary, that's ok. More than Favors seems like a bit of a leap.

I agree. $8-9M/yr would be reasonable.

$11+ is just crazy IMO.

I see Hayward getting somewhere around DD and/or Gallo's pay. If he gets more than DF than that is pretty bad.

I agree, but it's funny how some here praise their overpaying and if it were us I wonder what they'd say.

And it would be overpaying. He's at best an 8mil player at this point. He may end up being worth 12mil, but why pay him that? He's averaged 21mpg in his career and has never been a fulltime starter in the NBA (I don't gaf why either).

To keep it simple, if he is what everyone thinks he is, and is going to be this year, which is a player who will be in the top 5 in both rebounding and blocking shots, then Utah would have likely had to offer him the max at seasons end, or match a max deal in order to keep him. I think we're going to look back at this thread a year from now and a lot of people are going to realize this. There isnt many 22 year old defensive bigmen who can impact the game like Favors can who have his potential.

It doesnt matter what you think he is worth right now.

That convinces me. Should have been a max deal.

Comeon now Jeff, you take one snippet out of my post to nit pick at when it's already been explained multiple times as to why scouts and team execs think so highly of him. He outplayed Jefferson and Millsap on numerous occasions and his production in limited time was off the charts. Also, when he did get big minutes, he produced at a very high clip, so there's no reason to believe that he cant have a break out season with those consistent big minutes coming to him this year, and they're coming, because Utah has no back up bigmen. He's proven himself to be a game changer defensively when he's in the game, and he's improved every year he's been in the league in terms of his overall floor game, especially on defence.

The Jazz are banking on Penes Banter developing a hook shot. If not, the ball will have to rotate through Derrick Favors early and often.
