Derek Fisher leaves Mavs, may retire?

According to ESPN.com, Fisher issued the following statement: “In Tuesday’s game against Philadelphia, I suffered an injury to my patellar tendon. The recovery time will be approximately two weeks. With this news and the difficulty I have been having being away from my family, I have asked the organization to waive me so I can return home. “(Mavericks owner) Mark Cuban has been extremely supportive and has granted me this request. I cannot say enough good things about this organization. From Mark, to Coach (Rick) Carlisle, to the players on the Mavericks’ team, I sincerely thank them for the opportunity. “I have made decisions in the past, leaving money and opportunity on the table, and I will need to do that again. My family is my priority and that is where I choose to be. I won’t close the possibility that I will play again, however for now my family and being close to them remains the priority.”

The Mavericks plan to sign 6-7 Chris Douglas-Roberts off of the NBA Development League’s Texas Legends roster to fill the spot vacated by Derek Fisher.

I doubt he'll return, hes almost 40. What a way to go out though, but he had a great career.

I have to wonder how ready he was to play. In any case, they need a pg. We have three. It would be nice to see a couple more teams needing a pg so there might be something of a bidding war.

Why would they need a PG? They have Collison, Beaubois and even Mayo can play PG (so he says )

That is one team heading towards Raptor territory where everyone seems to be in over their heads. Such a change. I said in the summer that hey were going to miss Terry dearly, and that Terry was not likely to have the same effect in Boston. He was the heart of that team in many resects, and he's just not going to be the heart of the Celtics.

Read between the lines.

"Why would I bust my 40 yo butt when floaters like VC barely break a sweat?" :cookie:

Seriously, they are a hard team to watch these days.

Don't joke, they might try it with Blake having been out so long.

Honestly, that would not surprise me. If the Mavs were a better team, I think Fisher might've stuck it out longer; I think he's really just chasing championships at this point in his career.

He'd be a good player to put under the management wing. I wouldn't be surprised to see someone like the lakers pick him up, retire him and give him a position with the team.
