Default Denver TV: Deal in place to send Melo to NJ

If he's willing to sign an extension this will probably be done soon.

A deal is in place to trade Nuggets supertar Carmelo Anthony to the New jersey Nets.

I think they would be stupid to pursue melo IMO. They're going to give up so much talent, then in 5 months melo will just walk and go to the Knicks. Isn't it obvious?

It has been documented that NJ won't trade for him unless he agrees to a 3yr+ extension.

With a strike looming I'm sure Melo will opt to the 3 year deal anyways

1 - as Jeff said, the deal is likely contingent on Melo promising to sign an extension.

2 - Melo can't just walk to the Knicks. Even though Curry will be coming off the books next year, it is not enough to cover a max contract for Melo. The Knicks would then have to scramble to find a way to clear $7 or $8 extra mill for Melo. That would be very hard to do, especially since they already gave away a couple of recent picks just to ditch contracts last year. It's actually New York that would be in danger of depleting their roster if they want Melo.

3 - As was reported in another thread, NJ is planning on sending a package of 4 picks, Favours, and Murphy's expiring deal. Only one of the picks will be the Nets. New jersey owns a pick from GS and picked up 2 more 1st rounders in the Terrance Williams trade. The Nets will still have Harris, Lopez, Morrow, Farmar, and Outlaw. It's not a fantastic roster, but it's a decent core with more of a future than the aging Nuggets, in my opinion. Furthermore, even after taking on Melo's salary, the Nets will still be under the cap next year if the new CBA does not drastically alter the cap structure. Thus, the Nets will have a bit of money to get a couple of new bench players, or pick up a respectable rebounding PF.

From a longer term perspective, I think this is an okay fit for Melo. Not the best fit, but not terrible. Billups is getting old. Nene might retire in a year. Kenyon's best years have passed.

Nice.

PG - Devin Harris
SG - Anthony Morrow
SF - Carmelo Anthony
PF - Travis Outlaw
C - Brook Lopez

I'm sure Travis Outlaw is gonna be happy about the move back to PF. He really isn't cut out for playing SF in the NBA.

That's an extremely dangerous team. If the deal goes down, our division will be tough with Boston, New jersey and New York.

Plus, he was born in Brooklyn and that's where the team is moving to.

And a good defensive center. Maybe we can get one from dallas cause they have like 4 big defensive centers and they don't usually use two of them anyway....Mahinmi or Ajinca who are both big, young, good defensively and can block shots as well.
