Del Negro losing the Clips

No surprise really.

With the Los Angeles Clippers in free fall, tensions are high in the club's locker room, most notably in the relationship between coach Vinny Del Negro and his players, according to several sources close to the situation.

"Vinny has lost the team," one source said. "They don't want to play hard for him."

With the Clippers having lost 11 of their past 18 games to turn this once-promising season into a mess, Del Negro's job security would certainly seem to be in jeopardy. As it is, Del Negro is in the final guaranteed season of his contract. The Clippers hold a team option for next season.

Most of the players, according to sources, believe it's time for a change. They cite the uncertainty of Del Negro's rotation as a major problem. With the front office adding several players to the roster throughout this shortened season -- Reggie Evans, Kenyon Martin, Bobby Simmons and Nick Young -- plus Eric Bledsoe's return from injury in February, players' minutes have fluctuated from game to game.

For instance, in one four-game stretch this month, Bledsoe played 6 minutes one game, 16 the next, then 4 minutes, then 17. And while starting at shooting guard, Randy Foye has played 35 minutes on some nights and 14 or 16 on others. This week, he lost his starting job to Young and did not play a minute in Tuesday's loss to Indiana.

Beyond that, players have complained that Del Negro's offensive and defensive schemes are too basic and predictable and they say he plays favorites when handing out criticism, according to the sources. They say while he refuses to harshly criticize stars Chris Paul and Blake Griffin, he does not hold back in jumping on the team's lesser players.

"That's a big problem," one player said. "The best coaches jump on whoever deserves it, no matter who it is."

About time, I knew this was going to happen at some point. Jerry Sloan should step in.

They were my favourite team to watch at the start of the season. Now I happily ignore Clippers games. I even predicted a Clippers/Heat finals this year in some thread at the start of the season (I thought Griffin would turn into a game dominating kind of player). :cookie:

He will be if he ever gets over his entitlement.

Ditto with watching less of them... On a good note, Clips vs Lakers in the playoffs would be sweet!!!!! And the loser should move to Seattle, lol...

He better be fired after tonight.

ScottMescudi 03-22-2012 10:56 PM

They are paid millions to play basketball. That alone should motivate those lazy asses. :sigh:

Isn't that the opposite though? If I had the security of having millions I wouldn't
care so much. But if I'm making minimum wage chances are I can't afford to be lazy since I'll be fired.

Get rid of him already, it's been obvious before he's a terrible coach... get someone in there that can get this team to actually play! I want the clips to do well!

Triano is available :cookie:

Sloan would be an ideal coach for that team.... but would he like being in the bright lights of L.A.?

Walk the plank buddy, make room for Coach McMillan.

Guaranteed contracts my man. Give a minimum wage earner a 4 year contract and they'll be just as bad if not worse than these multimillion dollar athletes.

I'm not condoning the poor attitude by these athletes but it is what it is.

I said "...my favourite team to watch". I'm not allowed to enjoy watching other teams? With no practices they had a ton of offensive flow at the start of the season.

You will have to give me the manual for what I'm allowed to do and not do as a basketball fan.

well, if they were your favorite team to watch i would assume you cheer for them while watching. and you go from that to "happily ignore clipper games" when they start to struggle. i find it hard to believe you would watch their games being competely neutral about the outcome. if thats true, i apologize in advance.

When the Raptors play I always cheer for them to win. I'm not into tanking. When I watch other teams play I'm just cheering for beautiful basketball - I don't care who wins the game - great basketball is a joy to watch. The Clippers went from being a joy to watch to being not much fun to watch.
