Del Negro fired, still searching for replacement (revisiting an old thread)

The decision to fire head coach Vinny Del Negro has already been made, according to sources with knowledge of the Chicago Bulls' thinking. The fact that the Bulls' front office has not been able to settle on a replacement is the main thing keeping the embattled Del Negro employed, the sources said.

They should hire Scott and have him unleash Rose on the NBA.

Tell you what, Del Negro might not be the greatest coach but that team is missing Ben Gordon in a huge way.

The Bulls just lack consistency.
Derrick Rose has underachieved thus far and blaming it on Vinny would be unfair.

He's dead man walking.... how long will the Bulls wait to hit the switch? That's gotta feel crappy for VDN.

If I'm Vinny, I'd step-down before they fire me. At least leave with my dignity.

Is Vinny in denial?

Quote:
Del Negro: Report on his fate untrue

DEERFIELD, Ill. -- Chicago Bulls coach Vinny Del Negro said an ESPN.com report that a decision to fire him already has been made is "totally not accurate."

Citing sources with knowledge of the Bulls' thinking, Chris Broussard of ESPN The Magazine reported on Sunday night that a decision has been made and the Bulls are just waiting to find Del Negro's replacement.

The coach said he and Bulls management are on the same page, and Del Negro told reporters to ask vice president of basketball operations John Paxson or general manager Gar Forman about the situation. Forman declined to speak to reporters after practice Monday.

Phone messages left for Paxson and Forman were not returned on Sunday, but in text messages to ESPN The Magazine on Sunday night, Paxson neither confirmed nor denied the report.

"It's just funny to me," Del Negro said. "There's really nothing to say. You have all these people that have rumors, and everyone has their sources. It's just not accurate.

It would be quite funny if Vinny doesn't actually get fired...

ya the team doesn't look good this year, they get killed some games but also have injuries, lately they seem to bring it

there pulling the trigger to early, they shouldn't even been talking about this, the bulls organization some vault, homer simpson could rob that bank, talk about leting information out

sounds like a great place to coach, Doug Collins was right to turn them down

I've seen this movie before. Owners completely deny deny deny rumours than one month later the coach gets the axe. Sorry Vinny you are a dead man walking and as Zachus stated this team can't score. Letting Gordon go put the axe to this team. Your major offensive options are Rose and Deng. Deng really not a major scorer but an unbelievable stat filler and Rose well is too young to be asked to run a team and be a major scorer.

I'll put this one on the GM but hey you know how it is the coaches always get the fall

oh man, who knew Gordon's absence would impact the team this much. I wonder why he even went to the pistons. He could have been a strong piece to a big 3 like the celts.

indeed. it's amazing what a healthy star can do to make a coach look good, and what an ailing one can do to make him look bad.

There were lots of rumours that Gordon didn't feel appreciated by the Bulls, since they didn't make him a big offer 2 summers ago when his rookie contract was coming to an end. Because of that, Gordon's agent supposedly didn't even give the Bulls a chance to match the Pistons offer this past summer.

Who knows? Maybe there were additional chemistry issues, too?

Yeah, for a split second, I was like "WTF?", too.

I mean, how shitty would that be? You survive all the initial rumours and get the team winning again, then management decides it's time to fire you. It's a cut throat business, though, so anything is possible.
